Thinking of Removing The Band

Recommended Posts

I was banded 10/27/2008 and one week after surgery I started PBing all the time even when I drink Water. I would be talking to someone and all the sudden "BURP"I deal with the public every day. Also I have bad reflux never had it before the band and have to sleep with my head elevaleted or it wakes me up. I have a 14cc band with 3cc in it. First fill was 12/03/2008 the Dr. said this was due to eating to fast and said to take over the counter acid medication. When they did my fill it was done under the Fluro X-ray and they said every thing looked ok just go on liquids for a few days. Well a week on liquids and no relief. I will see the Dr. on Monday 12/15 again. I have lost 40 lbs.since being banded but I believe that the weight loss is from diet and exericse because with 3cc I do not have any restriction and can eat a lot more that the 5oz of food they want me to eat. I was covered by insurance and wondering if I keep having these problems will they cover the removal. Any info will help.

I maybe reading this wron but you were bandly very recently. For on thing most surgeons do not give fills out until at least 5-6 weeks after surgery because of serious problems like this. Perhaps this is one of the problems and your stomach was not given the right amount of time to heal. now another question is has this problem only been occuring since the fill or was it immediatly after you had the fill.

I think your first step is to see the doc. Get in on an emergency visit if you can. Then I would talk to them about what you can do. Maybe there is other alternatives then getting your band removed. I hope everything gets better. Good luck

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
