What about long distance post op?

Recommended Posts

I am considering getting banded in Detroit, MI and I live in Oregon. What have others done regarding their post op appointments? I can't afford to go to Detroit again.

If you live in Oregon, why would would you go that far to get banded???:confused:

I live in Oregon also, and had my surgery done in Southern Oregon by a great doctor.

I, personally, would look into the state that you live in for surgery, it will be alot easier on you for post-op appointments.

Thanks G,

The thing is I am a self pay and they have a better deal in Detroit through Harper Hospital. I'm wondering if there is a doctor that will do my post op here.

WOW! That IS a far way to go for your surgery. Consider this also--how long after your surgery would you be returning? The reason I ask is that I tend to have more restriction if I go up north into the mountains...I'm wondering if you'd be in total pain being in the altitude?!? (assuming that you are flying)--Also, I've heard that it's difficult to get someone to do postop if they didn't do the surgery. But who knows...you might fnd someone. I'd make SURE they will guarantee that they will treat you BEFORE you go ahead with it. Also, consider the pre-op stuff too...it might be hard to coordinate all of that with a doctor that far away...I'm not sure how far into this process you are, but it's somewhat time consuming for the pre-op stuff (it was for me anyway). Anyway, good luck to you.

Yea. It is a long way. I wonder what the people who get banded in Mexico do. I am to chicken to go to Mexico would rather go to Detroit unless someone has a more affordable option.

I am also wondering about long distance post-op but my surgeon will only be about 3-3 1/2 hours away, that is still quite a ways to go if I have to go there for everything--dietician, psych..... but I am so rural that they are the closest.

Well, I am getting banded in Mexico but I have found a local doctor to do my fills so I won't have to return to Mexico unless I just want to.

You might do some research on the local fill places and see if Mexico is an option for you.

Fill Centers USA will do your fills regardless of where you had your surgery. However I've heard they are a bit pricey. You can check their website to see if there is one near you.

That being said, my surgeon is in Colorado and I'm in North Carolina - now that's a far hike! My surgeon offers free fills for the first 3 months, and $15 fills thereafter. So I can either fly back to Denver every time I need a fill, or drive 3hrs to Fill Centers USA and have them do it.

I prefer to have my surgeon be the one who does my aftercare, so I'm flying back and forth to Denver for my fills. But Fill Centers USA is so expensive that the costs actually even out. If I get 4 fills in my first year (which is entirely plausible) then I'm spending no more than $100 more to go to Denver each time. Granted it's 4hrs on a plane one-way, but hey - sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do!

Hey,

I have decided to go with Dr. K in Denver also. I plan to have my after care done by Fill centers USA. They are only an hour away. How was Dr. K? Was he pretty strict about the BMI thing I am a 37 at least until after Xmas.

Wow, in 2 days you changed your mind, haha.

I was a 38 BMI when I made my appointment and had no problems. I was a 39 BMI when I went in for surgery, lol. But still, no problems. You should be fine! He's the nicest man, he's so friendly and he'll answer every single question you have. Good luck to you!!!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
