Hi there, nice to join everyone. I am from Northern New York (yes it is freezing up here!!) and hope to have the Lapband surgery sometime in the next 6 months. I did not realize it would take so long, I do not have an appointment for the orientation/seminar until late April. I am very discuraged about that-I was hoping things would move a little faster! I have researched on the net and I have read a lot of your questions and comments on here but of course, I still have a lot of questions. I am 41 years old, 5'7" and 240 lbs, my BMI is 37.7--I have stuggled with my weight since I was 10 years old. You all know the story, tried it all and nothing seems to work for long. I have no will power and need extra help. I think this is the best thing for me and am SO looking for a LIFE change, we alll HAVE to eat to survive but if I had a restirction where I knew I could not overeat AT ALL, I know I could make a change for me and my health, I need that extra help. So my first question is, I see that many of you have to do a PRE-surgery liquid diet. Is this for the severely overweight or for all??? Looking forward to talking to you all!! :cursing:

Hi blondie, it does take sometime but in the end it will all be worth it. I am being banded december 19th. I started my journey in april and I had six dietician visits and you can only go once a month .. I thought perhaps I could have them all in six consecutive days.. lol wishful thinking on my part when I first started my journey. I wish you the best of luck but dont get discouraged keep going.. Just think you will be a New You in the end... so keep going.. dont give up...

Thanks Julie, yes I see it takes some time. Once a month? Is that typical?? I know that it will all be worth it in the end and that this is just the begining of a long HEALTHY journey!!:cursing:

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
