No restriction, and pain in chest and right shoulder

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

I have pain in my chest, right shoulder, and have no restriction whasoever when I did before. Any ideas on what this might be? I caled the doctor's office. The PA called me back and I was unable to answer. I then called her back and now I am not able to get in touch with her. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks! I am scared.:cursing:

Call back again. Someone has to be on call. If the pain is intense and you can't sleep, go to the ER. Why take unnecessary chances if you have insurance?

I had a lot of pain in my shoulders and lower neck the week of my surgery. When I asked the doctor what this could be, he told me the air in my belly is pushing on a nerve causing the pain. It still happens every so often. Sitting up real straight helps a little. Walking around and trying to *burp* out the air is helpful, too. Also, Gas-X strips are a Godsend. :whatchutalkingabout

I had my Lap Band Surgery Nov 19th.

The Gas/ Air in my chest was the worst.

Gas X was my friend, that and a lot of walking.

Honestly? I think the pain you are feeling IS restriction. When I have felt my restriction, I definitely feel it in the chest. Most of the time it is NOT the same feeling as when I felt "full" prior to surgery. Its a tightness in my chest that at times can move into my left shoulder. The couple of times I have eaten enough to get the chest/shoulder pain so far, its when I ate just a bit more than my band wanted me to.

If you really think this is not the case, you need to see your doctor. The other cause of chest and shoulder pain is heart disease.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
