Kaiser Richmond Pre-op

Thanks for the advice, Riley! I actually am kickin' butt already and am just excited to get to goal.

I've lost 21.2 lbs in 7 weeks which is an average of 3 lbs a week...not too shabby! I also am journaling everything I eat and my workouts including how long and how many calories burned via my heart rate monitor. I love that thing!

I just finished a turbo workout and burned 675 calories. I did 20 minutes on the bike and 60 on the treadmill. I'm gonna hop on the tready later tonight and walk during the 2 hours of biggest loser, but probably not at as much of a hard pace.

I'm going with Nicole tomorrow for her CM appt and am going to do a weigh in at the bariatric dept. I was 291 the last time I was weighed there so it'll be nice to see at least a 15 lb difference, maybe more!

Hello All

So glad everyone is back!! Missed all the chatter

I think were are all on the same track right now. I am strangely getting nervous now and I don't even have a date. I am 1 pound away from goal. I have been the same for 5 days now. What happened 1-2 pounds every couple of days last week?? 12 down and now I am stuck!! I thought I could lose it by Friday but maybe not!! LOL. I am going to undereat and over execise until Friday and way extra water!! It is also that time of the month so I hope that if I give it a few days that maybe this is just Water weight..............I can hope anyway.

So nice to know they will work with us long term. That helps. I am ready for my CM appointment and than pre op. It is just the surgery I am starting to get nervous about now. Why? I guess it is going so fast now and I realize this is real now not just an idea.

I can't decide between lap band and RNY but I am on this site so it shows where I am leaning. I am 20% undecided right now!! LOL.

Yea I like the staff at Richmond alot. The psych appointment was fun I liked Dr. S. Would like to pick her for individual sessions if I lived in Richmond. Wise woman.

So good luck tomorrow. Who does everyone have for doctors?? I have Dr. Baggs.

Oh and I know about the scales I like the same one Riley. Gave me a -3 rating from 246-243............yes, yes I did have my coat, shoes and sweater off as well. Dr. Baggs walked in while I talked to the office staff and told them about the weight difference..............he started laughing maybe because he knew they had just adjusted them all and they were all the same and there I was telling the office staff that the other scale was better!! LOL.

Wish we were all in the same pre op class. I am going on vacation in March and hope to have it the week I get back the end of March. I gotta get me some of that cranberry stuff!! GReat idea!!

Thanks Aud. I was afraid it would take a long time so I didn't go at lunch today. So is the EKG the same place as the blood draw done?

I really need to get it done this week so I can have before I get my CM appointment.

I am indimadated I have only lost 13 pounds look at you all go!! I have already hit a plateau. I wanted to be 30 down before surgery. Maybe I will make it yet!!

Good luck all tell us how the CM appointments go?

Oh Riley what kind of a physical for pre op appoint? Do you know?

Hey Reggie it is that time for me as well and I feel like I gained everything back I lost. I know I didn't but it is discouraging!!

My orientation was december 16 and I was fine until all the family arrived for Christmas. I ended up giving up until everyone left after new years. To much eating out and at other peoples houses.

I know if I had started the day after orientation I would have already been at goal weight. I lost two solid weeks to Christmas.

I had to start on New Years and than it took a good week before I really got strict and cut everything out.

No carbs or soda at all today but no weight loss either. Ahh I hope the bloat is just Water gain.

I have to go on blood pressure medication this week. How sad right before surgery, losing weight and still high blood pressure. Gonna take a Beta Blocker.

C'mon Reggie...get back up, dust yourself off and start over again! You can do it, you are a strong deserving woman! I get the munchies before my period too but since orientation I've tried really hard to make those munchies be something like fruit or veggies or sometimes 4 M&M's...but only 4! :(

I know you can do this, it seems like a long road to goal but it will get there and it will be so awesome to have a headstart before surgery with 30-ish pounds down!

I just told my hubby tonight that I thought I'd never get to my goal and now I'm so close I can taste it! And it's only been 7 weeks!

Would it help to have an accountability partner? I'd love to be there as a team and we could check in via email or phone once a day and make sure we're both still on track. We can make sure we're both working out and eating well. Let me know if you want to do that.

Let's do this girl! (((hugs)))

Good luck today ladies! Let us know how it went!

My pre-ops and classes are Feb. 5th.

The pre-op medical exam is short, I went with a friend to hers and I stayed in the room. He goes over the medications in very fine detail, goes over instructions for the day before surgery, he is a very professional medical assistant EE GADS I can't remember his name right now! Thomas something . . . His pic is hanging in the surgeon's waiting area. The actual lay-on-the-table exam is very short, shorter even than the one Dr. Baggs did, you lay down and pull up your shirt and he looks and presses and you're done.

I got my lab work and EKG done today!! After two hour of waiting at the lab out in Roseville!! And I got weighed while I was there so I could have it on my medical record. I was 240.4!!!! Below goal weight and that is with clothes on. I was in utter shock I thought I was back u to 244 again last night. I think maybe my scale is the problem

So I called Kaiser and I have my CM appointment on February 9, 2009. They will set up surgery than I guess. I was told to try and be 3-4 pounds under 240 in case there is Water weight or a difference in the scales. I actually hope to be more like 10 pounds under that since I have a little more than two weeks to work on it.

Seems like going over the 64 ounces of water is really speeding things up with weight loss.

So how is everyone doing today??

Thanks Tina. Christine I think I'll take you up on the accountability team. We checked on FB and lets keep doing that. I have dusted myself off and I'm getting back on track. LOL. I hate the time of the month. I called Kelly but she was out for the week, so I left a message for her. Hopefully she'll call me on Monday as I am so done waiting :-).

Have any of you recently been diagnosed with apnea and started treatment? They JUST called me in for sleep study . . .I was screened way back in November and no one called me until last week to come in - and it showed moderate apnea, which I now have to treat with a CPAP that they of course want me to purchase, go to a class on the 13th etc. this is at my local Kaiser. My surgery is scheduled for the 23rd! I do not have ANY apnea symptoms and was all zeros and 1's on the epworth questionnaire, but in any case I could have already been being treated for it if they had called me back when I did the screening! Has anyone else been diagnosed right before surgery?

Riley

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
