Hi, I'm Misty and I had lapband surgery on 12-19-2008. At my post-op appointment I lost 16 pounds since Surgery. But now that I'm in the mushy stage, I'm confused about what I really should eating.

Hi! This is Space Guy! I was banded on 12/30/08. My situation seems great so far. No pain, and not hungry. I admit I was bored with the liquids, clears, surgery, clears, liquids.... I tried mashed potatoes last night, and all was fine, even though it was only a small portion... I have a long journey ahead of me, but, I know that this is only a tool, and I have to use it to make a big difference for me! To all: Keep up the good work, and I hope you achieve your goal!

Always go for the foods highest in Protein. Mashed potatos might fill you up, but they are more starchy. Find a calorie website and look some stuff up. Don't worry so much about calories, but look for high Protein, lower fat.

Way to go December Banders!

I had my surgery on 12-18 and now coming up on four weeks, I can say that I have lost over 20 lbs! Plus I'm still not hungry, and the restriction is still very much there. I feel great, more energy to walk those 4 miles a day. After the second week I had to go off my blood pressure meds, as my bp was so low. Now I'm off all meds totally YIPEEE!

Hi guys! Hope all the holiday hotties are doing great! I had my first fill yesterday and it hurt! But it is soo worth it. I'm at 299 pounds today!!! Whoo hooo for being under 300. That's 31 pounds since before pre-op diet. i now have 4.5 cc in a 10cc band. You can check out my blog if you want details. Hope everyone is doing great!

By the way, I have had weight loss stalls, second guessing, and being sad and feeling like it might not work over the past month, so to everyone who is struggling, it will get better. We have only just begun!

Hi,

I'm Misty and my lapband date was 12-18-2008. Made it the first couple week. Now I'm confused on the mushy stage and suggestions........

Hi Misty,

Congrats on getting your band and having weight loss too! Also welcome to the forums. This is a great source to help you learn more about the band and to share what your going through with others as they are going through it too.

As for Mushies I suggest checking out this thread.

http://www.lapbandtalk.com/f9/lapband-food-stages-lists-suggestions-3995/

There is a whole list in there of foods for each stage plus under the Nutrition and Diet forum there are several threads on foods for mushies.

Best of luck!

Misty,

I'm still in the mushy stage for another couple of weeks. I found that if I stuck with the soft Proteins like cottage cheese, and Beans, I ate more. I am now eating small amounts of soft Protein meats (two legged animal kind) such as chicken, turkey, and fish. I have to concentrate on small dime size bites (I'm generally a fast eater, we'll see if I can change). I find that those Proteins, a little vegies, and a little fruit (approx 1/8 to 1/4 cup each) are a challenge to get down, and make me full. I've been loosing consistently about 3 lbs a week.

In a couple weeks I go in for my first monthly, I'm hoping for no fill (fingers crossed). I'm not sure if I want to go back on the regular foods yet, I may introduce them slowly after that. But I sure do miss my coffee and bread!

Good Luck and I hope this helps. It would be great to keep in touch since we were banded near the same day.

Cheryl

Hi everybody! I was banded on 12-19 and so far have lost 18 lbs. My starting weight was 258. I was on full liquids for two weeks, mushies for 1 week and today was the first day of regular food. I had scrambled (2) eggs for Breakfast, Protein Shake for lunch and tonight I was brave and had grilled chicken breast and Englis peas. I was kinda weary of the chicken, though. I was scared it would have a hard time going done, but actually I done just fine with it. My first fill is on 1/21. I am ready for it because I actually feel like maybe I can eat more than what I would like. I have also struggled with the exercise since I am a stay at home mom to three little boys, ages 5,2, and 13 months, although I do get alot of exercise running after them. I have ordered hip hop abs, but have not received it yet. I watched the infomercial and it looked like it be something that I would enjoy doing. I am glad I found this site so I could communicate with people that are going through the same things.

aut,

Congrats! Sounds like your doing great! I to go in for the first appt on 21 jan. I'm hoping for no fill at all. I think I have just enough restriction, with a consistent weight loss, at 3 lbs a week. The next couple of weeks will tell.

I spoke with someone yesterday, that said a bander she knew only had three fills in a year, and still lost 100 lbs.

We'll see

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
