Recommended Posts

I can feel a cold coming on and I have my surgery on Mon. My ins approved but it must be done by 12/2! PLEASE tell me they can do the surgery with a cold. No fever or anything severe.

Call your surgeon on Monday. From an anesthesia standpoint, if it is in your chest you can't have it until you are well. Head cold anesthesia-wise should not be a problem. But I don't know about a lot of coughing and sneezing immediately postop. That might be pretty hard on the band, not to mention painful.

the surgery is on monday. So far, it is just in my nose (more than usual) which seems to result in post nasal drip. I am planning on a slow day today and tomorrow and lots of sleep. I guess I will just have to see.

yes, the 2nd is the last day I can get the surgery. It is, however, scheduled for Mon the 1st. If I don't get it by the 2nd, I have to file everything again.

I would show up on Monday for your scheduled surgery. If you have chest congestion then I would talk to your surgeon. However, if you have a stuffy nose then I would let it go. You want to make sure that you are open and honest with your Drs. I was sure that my surgery would be cancelled as a result of a sever UTI but they gave me antibiotics and I was on my way into surgery. I really do think that you'll be fine. Drink some chicken broth and take some Vitamin C and rest! I hope everything turns out well.

ok hun this is what you need to do today! Go to a walgreens, or snyders and get a Netipot for your sinuses, and then get Zinc tablets, and some nyquil. I am a nurse and all of the doc's swear by these methods. If it really is a cold they won't rx any antibiotics. You want to make sure that the cold doesn't go into your chest. The nyquil will knock you out so your body can fight those awful lil germs.

Stay in bed and rest. Take lots of fluids and drink orange juice. But really stay in bed. There have been other people on this forum who had a cold and the surgeon did the surgery, however you know already that you need to call the surgeon to let them make that decision.

I swear by the Celestial Seasoning's Wellness Echinachia Tea - as soon as I feel a cold coming on, I drink 2-3 cups a day. The ingredients kick start the immune system, and the tea just makes you feel better.

Good luck!

I have a slight cold, I get congested in the mornings, but clears up during the day, my surgery is in less then a week, just wondering if you made it to your surgery!

yeah! I actually still have the cold a little bit but I am 23 pounds thinner and my lapband has been in place for almost 2 weeks. The dr said it was only an issue if my breathing was restricted but they were glad I hadn't taken any meds. It was at NYU so almost a whole floor (about 15 -20 of us) was dedicated to lapbanders and I was put in the "problem" room (one person had a nicked spleen and one was elderly) that had a nurse (all the other people shared 3 nurses). The only issue was that I was coughing some and was allowed one cough drop every four hours!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
