How did everyone do at Thanksgiving?

Recommended Posts

I didn't do as well as I would have liked today at Thanksgiving dinner, but DEFINITELY ate about 1/4 of what I would have eaten had I not gotten the band so I am happy with that. Also, I exercised before dinner and am planning a good workout tomorrow. I only brought home a little stuffing as a leftover so I won't continue to binge. I hope that the rest of your had good luck and did well!

I was proud of myself. I had about 3 ounces of turkey, 1/4 cup of dressing, 1/2 cup of a broccoli and cauliflower casserole, and a couple of forkfuls of apple salad. Oh, and a brown-n-serve roll. I started not to eat it, but gave in. Later, after taking a 40 minute walk, I had a small slice of lemon icebox pie made with Splenda.

I'm planning to workout at Curves in the morning.

I am suppose to be on Mushies. Had turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing, green bean caserole, sweet potatoes and some spinach salad. Definatley did not eat what I would normally, Oh and a small slice of pumpkin pie. I feel so sick right now. Is it normal to feel this full? Did I screw up and make the band move? Is that possible? Or do you have to throw up to have it slip?

Well, I didn't weigh my food, but I did reasonably well today.

We had a family reunion, so there was lots of food. I was in charge of making the bread (as I am the one who inherited the secret family recipe).

Before going, I had my Protein shake.

At lunch, I had a small portion of turkey, what was 2 bites of dressing, 2 bites of green bean cassarole, salad, potatoes.

No dessert, no sweets, no snacking after lunch.< /p>

For supper, I ate a dill pickle, since there was little I really wanted after a somewhat larger than normal lunch.

So over all, though a bit large at lunch, I think all went well. Going to Water aerobics in the morning (exercise is more important than sales - besides, Guitar Center's sales don't start until 8:00 - after aerobics  )

So while only the scales will tell, I think I did OK.

I wouldn't worry about what might be overeating a bit, even if you throw up, causing the band to move. While anything is possible, the odds are quite small.

And I also wouldn't worry about if you overate (though if the band is going to work, you shouldn't make a habit of it). You're working on a lifetime change... and in the course of a lifetime, one day is not a large thing.

I did great. My family went out for a buffet Breakfast. Gotta love those buffets... NOT. I ate some fruit and a tiny bit of scrambled eggs. Spent the rest of the time riding the hotel elevator and making wishes in the fountain with my 4 year old granddaughter. My sister brought over some turkey - YIKES. Did not go down well at all. Kinda hard to chew it up, so I put it in my food chopper and make a turkey salad out of it that I will have for lunch tomorrow. It was a good day - I am blessed and I am thankful. Becky

I did really well too. Didn't overeat at all. Wanted to but didn't. I ate A LOT less than I would've normally.

It was just the 3 of us this year (on purpose) and we still did the whole spread. We usually go to my Aunt's house and end up cooking a turkey around t-day anyway b/c we like the leftovers. Anyway, with that I made a new recipe for dressing (soo good), mashed potatoes, broccolini, cranberry sauce and rolls (that we forgot to eat!). I had a small serving spoonful of each thing and 2 small slices of turkey breast. It was sooooo good and I REALLY wanted to go back for more but I didn't.

Now we ate early so I got hungry about 1/2 an hour ago so I went and got a small plate and put a couple of bites of mashers, dressing, sauce and a small slice of turkey on it and I'm full again!

DH made a pie after dinner but we haven't gotten into it yet. We'll probably do that tomorrow. I don't have any room for it!

Such a HUGE difference from last year! I heaped my plate, inhaled that and then went back for more favorites!

Tomorrow night (Friday) might be kind of tough. We'll be out at my cousins and other than Soup, it's all snack-type foods and you just stand around and talk and dip into things. I'll have to be really careful that I don't overeat and get uncomfortable. I'll have a bowl of turkey Soup and then hopefully I won't get too far into the chips/veggies and dips. I'm just going to have to really pay attention.

My doctor gave me the video of my surgery. It would be very hard to make the band slip, although certainly it IS possible. These days some of the techniques have been improved and the angle they place the band has changed slightly also. This is SUPPOSED to keep it from slipping as easily. If you are supposed to be on soft foods, though..you really need to get back on them. Saying that, it is certainly understandable on Thanksgiving if you fall off and it doesn't sound like you went crazy or anything. Just be better today and now you know that a holiday can be a problem so prepare in advance for Christmas. NO food you

put in your mouth is going to make you feel as good as dropping another size in jeans is going to!!!!

PS..unfortunately I throw up a LOT! I do not overeat. I'm going to have to have some Fluid removed from my band. Still..all the throwing up and my band has still not slipped. Hopefully it will stay that way and getting some fluid removed will stop some of the barfing...

I had a really enjoyable Thanksgiving, but thank goodness its over....at least the food part! I didn't do nearly as bad this year as years past but I still ate more than I should have and had a 2 lb weight gain....OVERNIGHT!! I'm sure that it will fall off in a couple of days though, I'm not terribly concerned about it. I didn't even attempt the turkey cuz turkey is usually a bit dry even for the un-banded so unfortuantely everything I did eat was of the soft, slider-type foods. What was weird about the the whole day was I checked out everyones plates to see how mine measured up (they are all "normal" size people, I'm the only overweight one in the entire family) and their servings were HUGE,,,,much like mine used to be. That made me feel good that my servings were so much smaller than the "normals".

Hope everyone had a great day!!

I didnt do so well....I wasnt able to eat much at all. I received a fill last week on 11/19 and i am really feeling restriction. I am up to 6.25cc in my band and i can barely eat anything, I thought about having some taken out but the dr said I am fine. If I am throwing up then we have a problem. I can eat but i guess I just have to get used to eating very small amounts. That was different for me for this thanksgiving. I was only able to eat a bite or two of turkey macoroni and spaghetti. But this is what I asked for and on the positive note I am down 11 pounds in just one week after this last fill.

Thanksgiving was wonderful.

Having the band was kind of a relief.

I had my first fill last wednesday so I was concerned I wouldn't be able to eat anything!

I knew I would not be able to eat much so I made my mind up ahead of time I would have a Tbs of everything and I did.

I was able to eat everything and I was not stuffed like I usually am.

While everyone else was stuffed to the gills I was quite content!

I even had some pumpkin pie with cool whip on top!

Ummmmmmmm!

I really enjoyed myself this year!

I ate too much, til I slimed....but I still feel great! I wasn't in tune with my signals for some reason.

But you know....first Thanksgiving after meeting goal and a little mishap...I'm doing pretty good. Christmas I'm gonna take things a little slower and try to be lessed stressed. Think that will do it for me.

I've lost 2.5 pounds over the past month. Stress affects my band more than anything else. But goodness! I'm going through the wringer here and am doing everything I can to keep it together!

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
