Pre-op question to ask surgeon.

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

I have my pre-op appointment with the surgeon next week and I am trying to put together a good solid list of questions I should/want to ask him. I was wondering if anyone had tips or advice? Also if there was a question you wished you had asked?

Thanks so much!

1. How many people have you banded?

2. How many slippages have you had?

3. What training have you had?

4. What do you recommend for me? Band or by-pass?

5. What other tests do I need to complete?

6. Is there an over night stay in the hospital?

7. Do you have a preference of bands?

8. What is your fill policy?

9. How often will I see you for aftercare?

10. Do you personally do the fills or does a nurse/PA do this?

There are so many other questions, but these will help begin the process. Good luck!

One of the questions I asked was can you take out my gallbladder while your in there..Yes, mine is coming out at the same time, I have had some problems with mine!

And will I get some sort of I.D. to carry on my person, it comes in the band for us to have...Yes

When can I have caffeine again.. mine is one week.

Can I have soda ever again..I can 6 weeks after but only 1 12oz a day..If it's tolerated by you.

When can I lift..

when can I have sex, I forgot to ask this one..

Can I get the low profile port? Mine doesn't do 'em.

Do you numb the area before fills..Mine does not!

When can I take regular pills again and/or what size can they be?

I wanted to know if mine was gonna come in and say hi, before I go to sleep...

What pills do I need to stop before surgery and how long before surgery.

How long does surgery take..

How much are fills after insurance/self pay , mine are good for 1 year..

ect........

great questions, thank you!

The metro area I live in has a couple different doctor options, any reason you chose the doctor you did?

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
