My doctor recommends at least 60G per day. If you are eating Protein based Soups like chicken or beef broth you may be doing OK.

My dietitians have a goal of 85 grams for me, but they said that during the liquids and mushies stages, they wanted to see at least half of that, or 42g.

My group wants me to eat 60–70mg of Protein per day for Life.

Now having said that at 10 days out you are probable on mushies or some solid foods. Once I get to 35mg of food I am to stop one Protein Drink and at 70gm of protein stop the last protein drink. My drinks are only to be between meals when I start food. No more than 30mg of Protein at one time.

Hi guys: My hat is off to those of you that were on the God Offal Protein Drinks before the operation 14 days. But be very careful about adding food back to soon. Review the LAP-BAND System Information for Patients book PP 10 it is on line if you were not given one. How important, especially in the early weeks, not to stretch the small stomach pouch above the band. Each week is the most important of our band life. Our stomach must be given time to heal a few more puck drinks may well be worth it in the long run.

No worries, everything I am eating is in the food list my surgeon gave me for the first two weeks after surgery. I am on full liquids until a week from this Friday, then two weeks of mushies, then on to a normal diet.

Full liquids on his list include FF pudding, FF creamed Soups (thinned and strained), FF yogurt with no fruit pieces, thin oatmeal, thin cream of wheat, thin applesauce, skim milk, plus all the Clear Liquids and probably other stuff I am not remembering at the moment due to not having chosen to eat them thus far.

Hey Everyone,

I am 2 weeks post op tomorrow. I am on liquids for 21 days, cant drink it through a straw, cant have it. Anyway, Protein, I HATE Protein drinks and have not been drinking them. I know I need the Protein, but I cant drink it. I would LOVE to know how everyone is getting their protein everyday.

I bought vanilla flavored protein drink powder. Mix a scoop with 4 oz Water, add in any flavoring you want... for example, some sugar free, fat free choc pudding powder.. dump it in, shake it up... gets nice and thick.. add some ice and its good.

I would think you could have Decaf coffee try mixing 4oz with your protein, not great but helps. I was able to have skim milk on the 4th day that sure gives the protein a boost.

4oz skim milk one scoop protein. You might call around to see if you can find a protein suppler that will let you sample? Try to find one you like. Sure not sure were else to get your protein from but the drink.

I found that Designer whey in Natural Flavor works well to mix into so many things and you won't know it's there. I mixed it with mashed potatoes, instant pudding, cream of potato Soup, et cetera.

I'm 30 days post-op now and back to regular diet. Did anyone else feel some confusion when transitioning from soft diet to regular diet? I kept thinking how I should eat things a little more solid and less liquid, but yet I was scared to try the broccoli thinking it might be too rough (even though it was really well cooked.) I stood there in the store thinking, "Well, I'm not sure what I can eat then!" I guess the grocery bill will be lighter now too!

ha ha ha:laugh:

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
