Thank you, Aprilapple for starting this forum. I'm new to this site as of Nov 22. I'd been thinking about WLS for the last few years and when I got to my heaviest at 297...I said that's it...and that was in the early part of 2008. I finally, meet with a surgeon this fall and I'm in the 2nd month of my 6 month diet and my nutritionist and psyc eval are both scheduled for Jan 09....so, I'm on the path. I live in central PA but, will be banded in Maryland. Feel free to email or pm me.

Well stay encouraged. I had my surgery on Nov. 6th, and I don't regret my decision. Before the surgery, I was at my height weight ever 305, and so far I have been doing okay. I haven't had my first fill, so I am a bit anxious about that process, but I know I will be fine. I also live in Maryland, but I had my surgery in DC. I am also here to provide you with all the support that you need.

Stay encouraged

Hello All,

I am new to the group and just wanted to say hello.....I was banded on Nov 13th and well I only lost 5lbs since surgery officially (10lbs the first 4 days, but figured that was just Water weight). My first fill scheduled Dec 18th (granted I get rid of the minor infection I have at my incision). I'm trying to change the way I eat some days are good and well some days.....:cursing: I'm thinking maybe I should have went for the by-pass......I opt for the band because I felt you had more control and I liked the fact that it is reversible. The truth is I'm afraid I am going to have to practice discipline and lets face it if I had some DISCIPLINE I would've needed the surgery in the first place....IS THIS THE WRONG ATTITUDE TO HAVE??

I GOT A BEYONCE' INSIDE OF ME DYING TO COME OUT AND SHE'S PISSED OFF!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :scared2:

I think that weight loss surgery is a process in itself. I don't think it would be easy, and if you had bipass, you would still have things to do. I think the biggest hurdle was having the surgery. You lost 15! That is great. Don't minimize it and say that it was just Water weight, and so if it was, that is less water on you body.

I too have really been discouraged, and I think that is the journey of this experience. If someone could have just removed the weight during the surgery and we worked to keep the weight off, maybe that could be a easier route. But then we would be fighting to learn to keep it off. The estimated goal is 1 to 2 pounds a week. That is doable and natural. I too had to remind myself, that I should not be loosing weight so fast.

I had my surgery on the 6th (one week before you), I have officially lost 21 pounds (as of today). I am excited, but I have so much more work to do. You do too.

This site is us all. I am here anytime you want to reach out for support. You will get through this. Don't be hard on yourself, and be content with the decision that you made to have the band surgery. You are doing fine.

Keep up the great work. You will see Beyonce soon (big smile)

We have to offer that encouragement. I know I have really needed it since being banded, cause my family doesn't truly understand what I have been through. I want this to be an success for me, but I know I also have to work for it. How was the rest of your week

I have been struggling. Well I shouldn't use the word struggle if I am trying to look at this from a positive prospective, but the weight is not moving. I guess I shouldn't look at the scale everyday, but its so hard and soooo very tempting. I worked out last night, so I expected to see some movement on the scale, especially since my muscles were responding to the work out last night. I got on the scale, and saw 2lb increase. I was so suprised, cause I didn't even eat a lot. I have been seeing that a lot lately. One day I'm up 2lbs, the next, I'm down 3lb. I am not liking this at all. :)

Well dont worry because at least your not gaining....the weight is probably a few things..fluid (salt retention), plus your working out and so it may be your losing fat and gaining muscle...:)

for I just TRY to eat small portions and the healthy stuff first..I TRY to get some activity in during the day..mostly at work on treadmill and limit my intake at night to mostly fluids...WATER, Water, WATER...I GOT MY FIRST FILL THIS MORNING....to tell you the truth I dont feel much restriction at all but...hey they say its still early yet...KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK....WE CAN DO IT GURL!

See I would be in agreement, if I had been on some weights last night, but I didn't. LOL! I was on the bike, but I was at level three (don't know). My girlfriend told me not to get on the scale anymore this week. I will try that. I don't know if it will work, but I will try.

You are right about the fluids, and they make me so full. I will try drinking more Water at night.

So tell me how did it feel to get your first fill? I am kinda nervous about that. You have to eat Soup for the first day (after the fill) right?

O.k. they tell you mushies for a few days....but I cant lie, I work at a doctors' office and we get food catered all the time (so you know where I am going with this). Today they brought us pizza and Pasta and salad....I had a slice of pizza b/c I figured will be mushy in my mouth...once I finished I was still hungry and had no restrictions, so I went for the past which had broccoli, chicken and sun dried tomatos in it...still hungry...so now I am just trying to fill up on water.....tonight I'll eat a salad.. and have a sf popsicle... the funny thing is when I got here (still at work) I made a cup of coffee and a pkt of oatmeal and that filled me up more than lunch....dont know what thats about but the fill was sooo simple and really only took about 5mins if that long. I'm not sore or anything THANK GOD! but I am realizing with this thing it really is about what you FIND that makes you full quicker and SELF SELF SELF CONTROL b/c otherwise it can be a waste if you dont try and work at it....

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
