what's up with the flatulence?

Recommended Posts

So if you have had issues with flatulence since the lap band surgery and you know what the medical reason for it is, please share. I'm just wondering why I am having so much now, it has been 2 1/2 months since surgery.

Thank you!

Does it seem to happen for you after meals?

OMG the gas is horrible! I've been told it's just going to be like this since it's common in band patients. It's been 6 mos for me & I still have problems. Good thing I live alone.

Look at what you are eating - I'm only on the mushy phase right now but as I've been checking out the recipes, I want to try the chili/beans but I KNOW that is going to give me gas. I will eat it if I know I'm not going anywhere afterwards. Do you notice it more after eating certain foods or is it consistent with everything?

Hi CCL, good to see you here. I need your help, please check the dog board for a private message that I will compose in a few minutes...

I too fart alot. I keep gas x in my desk drawer at work, a mini spray of Oust, a scented candle on my desk and walk really really fast, when I get the toots.

I am so glad that someone posted that. I was actually just wondering the same thing myself. I am only 3 weeks out and I know it is not the same gas as right after surgery, but my goodness. My husband said he was going to send me to a private island! Am I going to be like this forever?

If you wan't to make a chili recipe that does not cause gaz and disconfort, while cooking had a few drop of vinegar. It doesn't change the taste but it nutrilize the enzime that produce the gaz. You will never have gaz after eating chili if you put vinegar in it.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
