Esophogeal Manometry

:sneaky:My surgeon and I are at odds on this test. I cannot find anything useful why he has this as a requirement for all his surgeries. Has anyone heard this test was routine pre-op? Has anyone had to have it done? I am having the lapband done in February 2009.

Do you have GERD or heartburn? It measures swallow force (in lay terms) and it is possible your doc won't do the surgery if you are likely to have GERD problems later on. My doc didn't require this but I wouldn't have minded him testing me to make sure my swallow is "strong enough" for the band. Not everyone is without issues in this area....

If you don't trust your doc, don't use him. I would've done it for my doc because I trusted (and do trust) him to guide me through this. I am, however, a firm believer in the saying "question authority". IF you feel your doc is the kind to make you have useless tests etc, then change doctors. if not, then are you just nervous?
