Special K Protein Water is good, but it only has 5g of protein. When you are supposed to get 50g or more per day, it is hard to do right after surgery, when a whole bottle only has 5g.

I can completely relate to the running to the bathroom -- and I'm now starting to think that is where all the gut pain is coming form.

As for hunger and Protein Water. My surgeon has me on a clear liquid diet, no protein, no shakes for 1 week. Just the deliciousness of broth, Jello, juice. Good thing I'm not really hungry.

Hey is there anyway we can start a Nov. 19th sub group -- it'd be fun if we all took this journey together?

I was banded nov 21st and gas x has been a life saver. I have the next week off of work for thanksgiving holiday so I dont have the run to the restroom i just let it fly if you know what i mean. My main concern coming up is breaking the news to my family over thanksgiving. What are they gonna think about it or me. Normally I'm the one chugging beers/overeating anything and everthing but i guess thats what got me in this situation in the first place. This first week I am too on the all liquid diet. Hopefully I might be able to get at least some yummy mash potatoes by thursday.

Breaking it to your family may be a little difficult if you didn't prepare them in advance. I am sorry that you will have to deal with the post op during the holidays. If your surgeon allows mashed potatoes by then, definitely have some. If you find that the situation at this time (being around the food and family) will be too much for you to handle, then be "sick" and don't go. At this point, making sure you are healthy is the most important thing.

HA I to was running to the bathroom one night. I took some of those chewable Amodioum AD (sp) tablets and have been fine ever since. Just want the shoulder pain to go away. Also started having lower back pain in the morning from sleeping on my back at night. I am a tummy sleeper. I am hungry but when I drink my Protein Shake my stomach is full but I still am hungry. Weird. Guess it is gonna take some time getting use to this. I now know what they mean by it is gonna take some time to train your brain. Tummy is full brain is not.

I to was banded the 19th and have the pains as well. Finally got some sleep last night. I used a heating bad under my left shoulder which helped with the gas pain and I was able to sleep. Not really hungry yet. Just wish the gas pain in my chest and shoulder would go away. I have been moving a lot and walking that seems to help a little. Sounds like there is quite a few 19th bandsters. Nice to have others to talk to about it all.

I was banded on april 16th. like you I also had pain in my left shoulder and the heating pas worked wonders for that. the hiccups hurt like the dickens but doing much better today. they glued my incisions and one tiny area is bleeding so I had to put a band aid on it. I feel hungry all the time but I have tried sugar free Jello. warm Decaf coffee feels good going down. I have this hard knot in my stomach or where my stomach is suppose to be and I wonder if that is just swelling from the surgery. i am sore around my belly button area but my incesions dont hurt as bad. I think I recovered from the pain pretty quick because I did a lot of crunches before the surgery.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
