Hi all. I have a question. I'm one week out, has any else been told that there port incision is going to leak as part of the healing process? I don't think I have read that anywhere on here but this is what I'm being told. Anyone else?

Thanks

I never heard or saw that my port would leak and my port never leaked. I am not a doctor but that sounds strange.

Call your surgeon.....my hubby's port started to leak yesterday. At the time we didn't realize it was the port. Anyways, this morning he went to the Immediate Care and they took a Q-tip and opend the hole where the leak was and patched him and told him to call his surgeon. Our dr said come in NOW. Dr said this isn't really that unusual and that his incision needed to stitched. Basically in my hubby it was a blood clot was had done something. Anyways, because it was clear that was good. Dr stitched him in the office and patched him and also started him on antibodic to prevent an infection. Not a major scare but definitely something to call about and do what he says. Hubby doing great now!!! This was all today.

Good Luck - let me know what happens

my port has not leaked yet but I was told that it may leak and that it was fine if it did. I guess I'll have to wait and see. Thanks

I was told presurgery that if someone loses weight too quickly that seromas can occur. When fat tissue breaks down and becomes liquid, the body sometimes can not absorb it fast enough. In this case, the liquid goes to the area of least resistance, usually someplace along the largest incision. They say that the goal is for the seroma to drain. Fluid that sits under the skin can become infected. Use warm compresses on the incision and allow warm Water in the shower to run on it to encourage it to drain.

I was told that I might have a little seepage in that area which is the biggest incision. I did have a little but it was not big deal and there was no redness or extra pain. Just make sure to keep your doctor in the loop so if there is concern, it can be checked out.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
