bad experience at the doctors regarding flipped port

Recommended Posts

Ive been having alot of pain as i said in a previous post regarding my flipped port. lots of pulling, and burning pain. I did everything the nurses told me to the last two weeks and yesterday called to let them know the pain is still there. So they told me, well you need to come in today to see the doc or you wont be able to see him. ( im 5 hours away) sooo my whole family packed up and drove 5 hours to get there for my appt. however. I wasnt seen until 5 minutes before 5. the doc comes in and was very short with me. He felt my port and said yes it is moving everywhere however that is all he offered me. I said well? what are my options? he said take some ibuprofen. which made me so mad because ive been doing that the last two weeks to no avail, ice, heat just like all the nurses told me. I said doc ive been doin all that and nothing is working. SO he sent me over to a diff doc in a diff part of the building who saw me for like 5 minutes and at least wrote me a pain prescription. I am so mad. I drove all that way wait hour and half to see the doc and he treats me like he needs to get me out the door! im seriously considering finding a new surgeon if i can who can help me. Ive heard of so many who had to have revision due to the same problem and Im wonderin why he is not offerin if its causing me so much pain??? I dont think I should have to be in pain and i dont want to revise it unless it has to be but i felt the level of care I recieved yesterday was below par and it really hurt my feelings because i feel like they got their money so now the jokes on me. Oh well. but i just needed to vent.

Sorry you're having to go through all of this :(

My port didn't give me pain, luckily that whole area was numb for several months.. my port did flip, and the only reason I had surgery to fix it, is because my doctor could not access it for fills/unfills. If he could access it, I would not have done a surgery.. again though, I was not in pain. Maybe he thinks your pain will lessen as the nerves are worn out..or the port will eventually stop moving? Can he still access it?

I believe you need to feel like you're in good hands with your doc, so I 2nd your idea of finding a new doctor. If the nurses made you drive all that way just to be told what they told you on the phone, I would be livid! My doctor is 3 hours away, so if they wasted my time like that.. well, I would be very vocal.. and then find a new doctor.

Mine has torn loose, and is twisted, Not fully flipped yet. We think. Anyway, they're attempting to fill it again on thursday with fluoroscopy. After they succeed, they'll decide on if it can wait until after theholidays or do it now.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
