Hi everyone,

When I went to my first post appt ,I ended up getting 2 different answers about when I can stop crushing my pills and take them regularly. The nurse I can start at 2 week post op ,the dietician says about 4-6 weeks . What did your providers say ? Thanks!

Mine only said I may or may not be able to swallow them whole. It all depends on how tight I am and how big the pill is. There was no timeline on when I should try.

I have been able to get my Sythroid and coated tablets down from the beginning. Capsules and Caplets wouldn't go down at all in the beginning and even now, it takes effort to get them down. I take three "Hair Skin and Nails" caplets and I have to swallow one with a ton of Water, wait 5-10 minutes for the next and so on. If they get stuck I slime BIG TIME!!! I still take my multi and Calcium in chewable form just because it is easier.

Hi everyone, this is my first time posting at this site. My name is Wanda. I had lapband surgery on November 13, 2008. I haven't eaten since Nov. 10. I am starving like Marvin. My stomach may not be hungry but my mind wants to CHEW. I was sent home from the hospital with all kinds of medications. They didnt say anything about crushing them or splitting them. I hope that I am not doing anything wrong. I haven't had too much pain so I guess not. I wish you all the best. :smile2:

I was told no pills larger than a pencil eraser (in diameter). I take several different pills a day and won't take them crushed---way to gross. I cut them in quarters or smaller if I am having a tighter than usual day. Sometimes it'll take me an hour to get all my morning pills down. Nighttime can be shorter or longer depending on how close to dinner I take them.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
