Just had my band removed...

Recommended Posts

Thanks kslexi and wasabubblebutt (luv that name!).

I am ready to get this band out of me. I looked up the sleeve, and I am so glad it is working so well for you, Wasa, but it's not for me. I'll just have to go back to weight watchers and the YMCA. Kslexi, great job losing your weight! That is awesome. May I ask why you had to have your band out? Just wondering. THanks for your responses. I am just trying to figure out how much time I will need off from work. I am an ICU nurse and only work on weekends, so I am hoping I can just miss one weekend. Is that reasonable? THanks again!

I was having alot of pain and trouble swallowing also. Unfortunately what was wrong didn't show up on any tests. I had pinhole perforations under the band, so I was about to be in a lot of trouble, but it got taken care of in time.

I'm also a nurse. I'm officially off two weeks, so if you have it done early in the week, it's reasonable you'd only miss one weekend I think. The removal for me was a little worse than the putting in. But I've had it so long, I had a lot of scar tissue and while he went in over the same incisions, he had to make them bigger, so I have staples. I'm 5 days post op, and I feel pretty good. Little sore, little itchy, little lumpy swelling but all tolerable. And I've eaten oatmeal and pudding with no pain or nausea, and nothing came back up. If I wasn't sore, I'd have done cartwheels : )

Thanks for the info, kslexi. I found out about the slip on Friday, and was hoping the doctor's office would call today with a surgery date, but didn't hear anything. I know I am being impatient, but like I said before, I'm ready to get it out! I read a few other posts from ladies who had the band out, and said that afterwards, it felt different when the ate or drank anything. One of them said she could feel when something hit the bottom of her stomach. Have you experienced anything like that? And I am so glad you are able to eat without vomiting and pain, and that they were able to get your band out in time.

Actually, for me, it's been the opposite. In having it so long, I was so used to feeling everything move every cm through me. Now I swallow and it's gone. Very weird sensation. I'm not used to normal anymore, lol. Good luck with your surgery, whenever it is. Let us know you're ok when it's all done : )

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
