Miracle cure for constipation...at least for me

Recommended Posts

If you can't find apricot juice, you will definitely be able to find prune juice...it works great too!

I've had trouble, not necessarily with Constipation, but with just not being regular at all and with being "uncomfortable". Talk about TMI, but we're all talking about it! I've tried benefiber in my coffee every single day and I'm still not my usual self. I am going to try this apricot thing starting tomorrow a.m.!

I tried Benefiber at first too, but all it did was give me gas. The apricots worked better than anything else I've tried...hope they help you as well!!

You can swallow those big pills and don't have any problem with blockage?

The Benefiber I used was a box of individual packets that you mix in with drinks. It was completely tasteless so that it didn't alter the flavor of what you mixed it in.....just didn't help me so I stopped using it.

Have any of you tried Barleans Omega Swirl?

It is a Flaxseed Oil supplement in a smoothy form

You take two tsp a day.

I saw this in a natural food magazine.

I wonder if it would work the same way?

I take the Barleans Fish Omega daily to get my omegas in and it's wonderful! Tastes like lemon curd! Yummm!

I don't know if the strawberry swirl flaxseed oil works for keeping you regular. I do know it's good for you just for your general health. You'll have to do some research.

I for one, am buying some dried apricots next time I'm at the store!

I'm using a product in Aus called benefibre. Its a powder and dissolves into food and drinks without any taste. I've found I need to have twice what they recommend on the label, probably because I'm having almost no fibre any other way. Its working.

Pears (canned, dried or fresh) are another good one. If you are still on (thick) liquids, try the juice. Personally, I eat prunes or dried apricots every day

The Constipation is caused by a couple of things - firstly, most painkillers will cause severe constipation, especially if taken over a couple of days. Secondly, your digestive system is used to much more "bulk" to work with and doesn't quite recognise that when it needs to move things along, because it doesn't know it is full yet. It takes a little time for it to adjust, but it will. Thirdly, if you are in the liquids phase, you're probably not taking in much fibre at all. You can help this with the juices - prune, fig, apricot or pear. When you switch to solids, try to get in one or the other in fresh or dried form every day and you shouldn't have a problem.

thank you everyone for the info. I bought apricot juice and plum light by Sunsweet, I hope they help. If not I plan to get the flaxseed oil. Either way, I will probably get the flaxseed, because you are right, it is good for you. I'm still on liquid, last week. I loss 11 lbs. It seems like it should be more. I think the Constipation is keeping me from loosing. I don't feel like eating much because of it.

There's Apricot nectar...not sure if it will do the same as the dried apricots, but it must have something to do with what's in the apricot and I can't see why it wouldn't work. If you can use prunes and prune juice I would assume it would be the same with apricots and apricot nectar. The nectar is delicious too.

I'm still in liquids stage, but when I can eat for real, I'll be adding apricots to my routine... I've never been constipated until now, in my life!!! I bought some Senecot-s per recommendation of the pharmacist, but I'm scared to take that too, LOL. I wonder if I could find apricot juice and if it would do the same thing?!?

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
