    • Still losing at a good pace.
    • Losing but it's up and down.
    • It's plateau time.
    • Gaining...grrrrrr!

Gibson and Taismommy, I'm sorry to hear you guys are struggling. I know how hard it is to keep your spirits up when the scale isn't going down.

Gibson, have you thought about asking your doctor to test your resting metabolic rate? If it is really high, your body might be in starvation mode at 1000 calories. I had that happen and had to increase to 1200-1400 per day and had an excellent rate of loss. If it is really low, you'd need to drop your calories lower and increase your exercise. Also, make sure you are getting in enough Protein and Water everyday.

Thanks for the encouragement, Jaime. I feel like my surgeonr doesn't listen to a word a say so I'm going to try with my regular physician.

By the way, I read about your great news on MySpace. Congratulations! =)

Thanks!

Is there a nutritionist who works with your surgeon that you can talk to? Hopefully your primary doctor can help you out.

Gibson - I missed you. Where the heck have you been? Never, never, never feel like you have to avoid this site please. We're here for you when you're losing and especially when you aren't. Frustration seems to be a partner of the band. You know there's bound to be someone here that has been or is going thru the same thing you are, sometimes they are just quiet about it. Let it out and let us help if we can. Come back little Gibson. You're doing good by the way. With all the frustration you had, all the time without any restriction and you still managed to keep from gaining it all back. Way to go!!!!!!

Gibson - I concur with Jamie...demand a metabolic rate test. And for that matter any other test. As illogical as it sounds, maybe your calorie intake is TOO low.

And as Ezma said, we really have missed you!

Yikes ladies! :( I haven't been on here in months! It's great to see all of your faces and signatures again! Luckily it hasn't been depression that's kept me away (although I'm sorry that it has hit some of you.) I guess life with the band has just gotten to be my new "normal". I lost the first 60 pounds right away, and then kind of took a break over the summer - just enjoying life, riding rollercoasters I now fit in - running around with my kids and yes... eating a little ice cream now and then. So I did maintain, but no loss over the summer. I got back on the wagon this fall and it seems that the pattern is losing a few pounds a month. Slow, but steady.

So I'm at a total loss of 70 lbs and the goal is to hit a 75 lb loss by the end of this calendar year and a 80 lb loss by my "bandiversary".

Still lovin' my band and the freedom it's given me from a lifetime of food addiction.

Good luck ladies!

Becca - good to see you back again. I went and got caught up on your blogs too. Sorry to hear you were having trouble with your band. Did you get back to a good restriction yet?

It's good to feel missed! I know I do better when I am connecting with the community - it helps keep me accountable.

Ezma - I did get back to a good restriction level. Luckily the problems didn't last long - just a hiccup in the journey. It did make me SO appreciative of my band. Being unfilled for even a few weeks was really hard!

Well my 9th month has been interesting I did lose a total of 44 lbs, but I have gained a little here and there..now I believe I am at -37 lbs so wow, I haven't logged on in a while. I haven't had a fill since august, only because I owe my surgeon over $800 :-/ I am making payments because I really need a fill. I am disappointed in myself but oh well I am hoping to get back on track....I'm glad I logged back on, I missed my fellow lap banders!

Welcome back Nikki. We can't give you a fill, though I wish I could, but we can help you stay motivated until you can get it. I really need to get back on track myself. I've gained 3 pounds, 5 from my lowest weight and I want them back off.

HI Gibson!!!!! Hi all,

Well let me just say I had a fill Nov 14 and a long talk with my doc who gave a stern talking to. Needless to say I have recommitted myself to this entire process and the clouds of depression are starting to clear(thank GOD).

I dont know if I mentioned it here before but I have started taking a yoga/pilates class and its hard as all hell but I feel better. I am focusing on the weekly class and trying to do some practice at home.

Thank you ladies for all the support!

Welcome back Taismommy...Can you send me your doctor's 'stern lecture', because man, I have been needing something! A lecture or a kick in the rear, whatever works!

Keep up the good work.

I'll take a lecture or kick in the butt too please. Everyone has been so nice and said it's understandable that I'm eating crappy. Well, it is but that doesn't change the fact that it's still self-destructive and I really need to get a grip. I keep trying to use the "Your son needs you to be healthy" one but it's not been completely effective yet.

Yet another double V here who's been away for a long while . . . I'm so sorry! I really miss all the friendly faces & names here, and everyone's support and advice has always helped me so much. I just had to stop by and wish my valentine sisters a very Happy Thanksgiving!

Band land has been mostly quiet for me, except for about two weeks ago. I had some really intense pain in that area of my stomach/chest where the band is, plus I was vomiting. Scared that I might have slipped, I went directly to the ER. X-Rays showed no slip, my band was just too tight (I had 6cc's in a 10 cc band). They removed ALL the Fluid ( eek - I'd never thought I'd miss 6 cc's of saline so much!) to let my stomach rest. Once the Fluid was out, I felt so much better. I've been back for an office visit with my surgeon, and he put back 4cc's already. If that works out ok, I return in one week after Thanksgiving to get more saline back into the band, but not up to 6cc's of course. I guess that was my "overfill" spot

So that's the only exciting thing I have to offer for now - losing has been very slow but steady for me. With very little restriction in my band right now, I'm gonna be able to eat on Thanksgiving (and I'm gonna enjoy it, but watch it at the same time, lol). I'll be making all the traditional Thanksgiving dishes for my family this year, with lots of help from my hubby & sister.

So everyone, it really is good to hear from you! I see some names I've missed so much. I need a stern kick in the behind to keep closer contact here. Before you know it, we'll all be celebrating our one year band-anniversary :) I'm not making any "number" goals for myself - I'm just gonna keep on trying my best to lose, even if slowly, and see where I'm at by one year.

I probably need to change that fish avatar picture - I just haven't had any pictures of me that I like (girls I'm just so camera shy, lol). Although I've grown somewhat attached to the fish picture - it's been with me since I started all this! =) Still swimming here, against the current, but hanging strong! :crying:

I wish everyone a very blessed and wonderful Thanksgiving! No matter where we are in our journeys, we are all winners, we have each other, and that is something to be truly Thankful for! :cool2:

(where's my sister-from-another-mister Marathinner? I miss you!)

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
