all of the Yes on 8 banners on this site.

The propaganda on the Yes side, not to mention the money pouring into this from out of state (remember when conservative Republicans stood for the rights of states to make their own decisions???) is disgusting.

No on 8 - it's the only way to go if you are a strict constructionist who believes the Constitution should stay...

None - that's exactly what I'm talking about. Those who support the constitution of the state should NOT support Proposition 8, as it aims to change the constitution. Regardless of how they feel about marriage, if they are TRUE conservatives, they should not support changing the constitution. Yes on 8 means yes, we should change the state constitution.

I'm seeing the Yes on 8 banners all over this site - connecting my children's education to protecting marriage - it's a farce and lie and it's ridiculous.

Not my business, since I don't live in Cali, but I think true conservatives would want this settled on a state basis. Isn't that what this ballot is all about (I have no idea, though. Have the citizens of Cali already voted on gay marriage, or is this the first vote)??

I haven't seen the banners but...

Proposition 8 is something that a these mormons (that don't live in california) somehow sneaked on the presidential ballet to reverse the decision to allow Gay marriage in california. The thing is they are not just reversing the decision, they are changing the constitution of california to define marriage as being only between a man and a woman. They were basically ignored at first so it grew rapidly because noone believed it would fly in CA. Well they got Massive Massive donations from churches and business out of state and the movement spread. I do mean massive amounts of money.

They are using deceiving misleading tactics, and commercial ads. Signs that just say things such as

Proposition 8 = Free Speech

Protect your family vote yes on 8

Or the ones that do admit that it is about gay marriage insist that if gay marriage is allowed it will be taught in school. That churches who refuse to marry a gay couple will lose be sued or lose government funding, again, not true.

It's really sad. I have been watching it with horror. It is such a huge step backwards led by people who don't even live in the state.

They voted on gay marriage 8 years ago and it was voted against, but four judges overruled it. Public opinion has changed alot since then and now it is about 50/50. 8 years ago it was not.

I really don't mind the voting. It's the changing of the constitution that really gets me, because the reason it was overturned was "baning" marriage for anyone was found unconstitutional according to california's constitution...so now they want to change the constitution.

Honestly, for my interest. I would like a federal ban on federal bans against anyone getting married. But, since I don't want federal bans against anyone getting married I guess the government should GTFO of the marriage business or let it be determined by the state.

The thing is most of the money and even the movement where started by out of state interest groups. They focused on california because of the overturning so they want to scream oppression.

Straight, white, people screaming about oppression. My favorite.

LOL, Plain - will you adopt THIS white girl ??

Seriously all of the above is true - it's totally crazy!

Oh, and my apologies to the board - read on another thread that the Yes on 8 banners are coming from Google Ad Sense...I think I'm now ESPECIALLY glad that my husband works at Yahoo!!!

Those ads are ALL OVER THE INTERNET. When I came here this morning and saw them all over here, I was SO UPSET and couldn't believe Alex would allow such a thing. But then I found out they are from Google and a lot of web sites were caught flat footed when they appeared.

It's still upsetting because the big, mostly out of state, push for Prop 8 is really about bigotry and depriving people of rights. But they can't say that because that just wouldn't fly in CA. So they've thrown out all these wild accusations trying to play on people's fears. I hope it backfires on them BIG TIME.

Oh and the one that has McCain on one side and Obama on the other is a Yes on 8 ad -- it's trying to imply that these guys both support 8 but Obama has specifically said he doesn't. So it's a lie.

The way I've always looked at it is, if you can't make your point without lying, then maybe you don't have one.

I forgot to say that I also think it's horrible that you can amend the constitution of CA with a simple majority and that whacko fringe groups are trying to push their views on other people by amending the constitution to include things that are not really constitutional.

Both Prop 4 and Prop 8 are about that, btw. Even if you agree with the sentiments behind them, these are not matters for our constitution.

Maybe they only show up if your profile says you are from CA?

Because I'm looking at one right now!!

So I guess after gastric bypass surgery, I cant eat flock chips because they are fried???  They sell them on here so I thought I could have them. So high in protein and no carbs.  They don't bother me at all.  Help.

It's possible for a very high fat meal to cause dumping in some (30% or so) gastric bypass patients, although it's more likely to be triggered by high sugar, or by the high fat/high sugar combo (think ice cream, donuts). Dietitians will tell you to never do anything that isn't 100% healthy ever again. Realistically, you should aim for a good balance of protein, carbs, and fat each day. Should you eat fried foods every day? No. Is it possible they will make you sick? Maybe. Is it okay to eat some to see what happens and have them for a treat every now and again? Yes.

I'm not at all hungry on this liquid pre-op diet, but I miss the sensation of chewing. It's been about two weeks––surgery is in two days––and I can't imagine how I'll feel a couple of weeks post-op. Tonight, I randomly stumbled upon a mukbang channel on YouTube, and it was strangely soothing... is it just me, or is this a thing?

I actually watched cooking shows during my pre-op, like Great British Baking Show. It was a little bizarre, but didn't make me hungry. I think it was also soothing in a way.

How do you figure out what your ideal weight should be? I've had a figure in my head for years, but after 3 mths of recovery I'm already almost there. So maybe my goal should be lower?

Well, there is actually a formula for "Ideal Body Weight" and you can use a calculator to figure it out for you. This one also does an adjusted weight for a person who starts out overweight or obese. https://www.mdcalc.com/calc/68/ideal-body-weight-adjusted-body-weight

I would use that as a starting point, and then just see how you feel as you lose. How you look and feel is more important than a number.

      2. Clueless_girl

I did find different calculators but I couldn't find any that accounted for body frame. But you're right, it is just a number. It was just disheartening to see that although I lost 60% of my excess weight, it's still not in the "normal/healthy" range..

Tomorrow marks two weeks since surgery day and while I'm feeling remarkably well and going about just about every normal activity, I did wind up with a surface abscess on on of my incision sights and was put on an antibiotic that made me so impacted that it took me more than two hours to eliminate yesterday and scared the hell out of me. Now there's Miralax in all my beverages that aren't Smooth Move tea. I cannot experience that again. I shouldn't have to take Ativan to go to the lady's. I really looking forward to my body getting with the program again.
I'm in day three of the "puree" stage of eating and despite the strange textures, all of the savory flavors seem decadent.
I timed this surgery so that I'd be recovering during my spring break. That was a good plan. Today is a state holiday and the final day of break. I feel really strong to return to school tomorrow.

Now that I'm in maintenance mode, I'm getting a into a routine for my meals. Every day, I start out with 8-16 ounces of water, and then a proffee, which I have come to look forward to even the night before. My proffees are simply a black coffee with a protein powder added. There are three products that I cycle through: Premier Vanilla, Orgain Vanilla, and Dymatize Vanilla.
For second breakfast on workdays, I will have a low-fat yogurt with two tablespoons of PBFit and two teaspoons of no sugar added dried cherries. I will have ingested 35-45 grams of protein at this point between the two breakfasts, with 250-285 calories, and about 20 carbs.
For second breakfast on non-workdays, I will prepare two servings of plain, instant oatmeal with a tablespoon of an olive oil-based spread. This means I will have had 34 grams of protein, 365 calories, and 38 carbs. Non-workdays are when I am being very active with training sessions, so I allow myself more carbohydrate fuel.
Snacks on any day are always mixed nuts, even when I am travelling. I will have 0.2 cups of a blend that I make myself. It consists of dry roasted peanuts, cashews, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, pistachios, and Brazil nuts. This is 5 grams of protein, 163 calories, and 7 carbs.
Breakfast and snacks have been the easiest to nail down. Lunch and dinner have more variables, and I prepare enough for leftovers. I concentrate on protein first, and then add vegetables. Typically tempeh, tofu, or Field Roast products with roasted or sautéed vegetables. Today, I will be eating leftovers from last night. Two ounces of tempeh with four ounces of roasted vegetables that consist of red and yellow sweet peppers, sweet potatoes, small purple potatoes, zucchini, and carrots. I will add a tablespoon of olive oil-based spread, break up 3 walnuts to sprinkle of top, and garnish with two tablespoons of grated Parmesan cheese. This particular meal will be 19 grams of protein, 377 calories, and 28 grams of carbs. Bear in mind that I do eat more carbs when I am not working, and I focus on ingesting healthy carbs instead of breads/crackers/chips/crisps.
It's a helluva journey and I'm thankful to be on it!
