Adjusting to Body Changes

Recommended Posts

Is anyone else having trouble "seeing" what others are seeing? I haven't lost a lot of weight but it is enough for people to comment. My daughter informed me that my gilly gilly gobber is disappearing. I am rather well endowed in the "upper frontal" category but when I looked down my belly always stuck out past my chest area. Now I can't see my belly. My niece informed me that my butt does not have a shelf anymore. Children can be so brutally honest. With all this being said, I still don't really see the weight loss when I look in a full length mirror. To me, I still look the same. Do you think it is just a mental thing. Being fat for so long that it will take time to accept the changes as they happen.

i feel the same way, but i have always had very low self esteem issues.

i have the mirrors in my apartment situated so that my head does not show in any of the mirrors... only my body.

when i look in the mirror i still see the fat me, not the size 10 me.

It took me some time too.

The one thing that helped me to realize was to stand in front of the mirror naked and look at myself. Really look at myself. Then I got a quick flashback and remembered what I used to look like before this journey. When I think about how far my belly used to stick out, as opposed to now, that's when I realize that I AM changing. When I see that I have more and more space between my knees and that the space is only creeping up higher THAT'S when I realize it.

I may not look perfect, but this has also helped me to truly love my body and boost my self-esteem. It only encourages me to keep going to the gym and to keep making those healthy choices.

Good Luck. Believe me, I know its not easy, but one day you'll see the new and beautiful you.

i think it's REAL easy not to see what others do....i was totally able to notice when the double chin left; but i struggled with looking in the mirror at my legs - specifically the thigh/hip/butt area.

i was in the gym the other day, walking into the womens changing area - when i noticed daylight between my legs...had to look twice, that they were indeed attached to me.

i think we can be harder on ourselves than anything anyone else can say / do....which might be the reason it takes us longer to notice significant changes,

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
