Hello from South Dakota

Recommended Posts

I am new to Lap Band Talk. I was banded Aug 2006. I lost 80 and have gained back 20 and have stalled there. But would do it all over again. It is a great tool but you have to be ready to use it as a tool. The band will not work on it's own REMEMBER it is a tool. I was banded by Dr. David Strand in Sioux Falls, SD. :cool2:

Do you mind talking about your re-gain? I am curious if you can identify what you did in the hopes that some of us may try to learn from you. Also, where do you go from here? Do you get your band filled tighter or do you have it replaced or look at more behavioral changes?

Hi from Colorado,

I am due to get banded Dec. 4th and I am so scared of this happening to me , so I would also like to here more from u about why u are were u are at. I just heard of another person who got banded a year ago and has only lost about 20# (ouch) and thats all I have been thinking about. I don"t know the details of here situation either so when I read your thread I was curious too.

Thanks and hang in there,

Tammy

I fell back into some bad eating habits. Love the restriction that the band gives me but it doesn't help if you don't eat right. I am coming back around after a fill about 2 months ago and getting my head back in the game. I haven't gained for several months just need to get myself back on track dietwise and get moving. It's a tool for changing your unhealthy lifestyle. When I went back to my old habits the tool quit working. I had to get my mind back in it. I had become complacent about the diet because I physically felt so much better @ 240 than I had @ 300. So I had to realize I wasn't done changing myself yet and that losing more would be healthier yet!!

I was banded in January of 2007 in Mexico by Dr Kuri. I have been getting fills in Sioux Falls by Dr. Harris, but his clinic is closing. I had lost 43 lbs and kept it off until about 6-7 months ago, and now have gained 10 back. My own fault, I am a stress eater and my job has been awful. Of course with the economy the way it is I certainly have to grin and bear it! My problem is that I began grazing again, and you can't do that with the band. Grazing enables you to consume waaaay too many calories than just eating your meals and a small snack. I too am trying to get my head back on straight and have just joined a fitness club that is across the street from where I work in Watertown. Plan on spending my lunch hours on the treadmill to get moving again. Anyone from my area who would like to get together?

Battleweary, for sure. P.S. I am a 57 year old female.

Hello South Dakota ~ I am so glad I found someone else from SD, you are only the 2nd one I have found. I was banded Sept 30th 2008, so coming up on a year and am down 57 pounds. Have my checkup on the 17th of Sept, so hoping maybe to be down 65 by then. I was banded in SF by Dr Brad Thaemert from the Surgical Institute of SD. He and his staff are so supportive.

Question, Cannaday,

What is your opinion of Dr Strand? How is his "bedside" manner? Since Dr Harris is closing his clinic, I have to find a new aftercare doctor.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
