To weigh or not to wiegh?

Recommended Posts

Do all of you weigh yourself once a week? Maybe this is bad or maybe not I don't know, but I wait until I'm at the doctor's office once a month to weigh because I thought maybe it would help me not focus on the actual pounds so much. What do you guys think?

I think it depends upon the person. I know folks that much prefer once monthly, or each physician's visit. I really like the weekly Friday weigh-ins, as they help me to keep myself accountable. I've done daily before, but that really is too often for me. On the other hand, some folks actually prefer a daily weigh-in.

The August 2008 bandsters have a couple folks that only post to the the Friday weigh-ins once a month.

Just a matter of choice &/or preference. Good luck to you!

I do the Friday weigh in only, and that is just so I can post on the weigh-in thread. I've never been a daily, since weight fluctuates SO much from day to day. I wish I had the ability to wait until office visits, but I think that I need the weeklies right now in order to keep me from gaining more than I already do sometimes.

I weigh daily but I don't beat myself up if I'm up a bit cause I know there is always going to be a little day by day flucuation, but I like the daily cause I like seeing it inch down little by little.

I get on the scale every morning before I shower. I have to have the numbers staring me in the face to keep going! I know that they will fluctuate from day to day, but I try to keep myself motivated by making sure the scale isn't moving in the wrong direction.

I wish I could way once a month, but I know myself too well, the scale could start creeping up ever so slowly. I am afraid it would get away from me too quickly.

I weigh usually every day...I can't stop myself  But I only take note of my once a week weigh in! I am not one to stress overly on my weight loss, yeah I can get frustrated, but I know this is going to take a while especially with little or no restriction so I don't beat myself up over it! And if I make bad choices I don't kick myself continuously over it. Here in Australia most of the docs say eat a sensible well balanced diet, and if you eat something unhealthy that is ok just don't do it all the time! Everything in moderation. My doc says he doesn't want you to feel like this is a diet!

I think it is a personal choice as far as weighing in goes and you should do what you are comfortable with, don't feel pressure to do something because others are!

I weigh every morning as I like the accountability of it. However, it does get frustrating sometimes. These last two weeks I have gained and lost the same 2 pounds. Sometimes I think I should only weigh once a week, but that scale has its magic powers on me and I can't not weigh in. I know we all hit plateaus and I am trying not to worry about it. I go to the Dr on the 11th and hopefully will have my first fill. When I look at the over all picture, I am doing great. 46 pounds in 4 months is not a bad thing, so I remind myself to be patient. It will take time.

I weigh myself every morning too (also can't help myself) but on the first of every month I record my weight for that day and take measurements. That way in my records I can see how much I've lost over the course of a month, which means I don't stress as much over the daily fluctuations anymore.

Lellow~ I have been trying to measure 1x a month. I think that is a real indicator of how you are doing. Sometimes the tape measure shows more success than the pounds!

I weigh daily BUT it's only official on Fridays for our weigh-in thread. In all honesty, I'm just plain curious. I expect fluctuations AND I retain Water really easy and tend to bloat so I can actually fluctuate a couple of lbs day to day. That just happened today in fact. Yesterday AM was 195.something (that's how much I actually pay attention), at the surgeon's office yesterday afternoon was 196 then this AM was 193.someting! Could make you crazy if you let it.

same here, unless hubby hides the scale from me.

since we were both banded together - we have spreadsheet on the fridge (LOL) with the scale underneath it. both of those are annoying reminders to grab a healthy snack/drink - on days i just want some chips & queso..ha,

friday is our official weigh in day - but if i weighed less on wed vs friday, i cheated and picked that number:eek:

I usually get on the scale every morning. For me, it works both ways. If it is up a little bit, it motivates me to behave myself. If it is down a little bit, it feels great and I want it to continue. If I don't get on the scale everyday, things get away from me really fast.

lu, that's funny! I'm so scatter-brained lately that I can hardly remember what the scale said this AM, let alone 2 days ago!

And the scale in front of the fridge would drive me nuts! I'd be constantly tripping over it in our kitchen (it's on the way to the kitchen door)! And my 2 1/2yr old would have a field day!

I try not to weigh myself every day but I do sometimes. If I am feeling not good about the weight loss I will only do it on Friday. I was at a plateau for 2 weeks fluctuating between 190 and 188 drove me crazy, I finally hit 184.4 and feel good this week, I had a fill, I won't weight myself till next Friday. I want to be 180 by next Friday. And 170 by Christmas.

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
