Hi Everyone

I put my name on the list for surgery 2 years ago. About 4 months ago I started a weight loss program and lost 13 kilos. I still have 22kgs to go to be healthy. This week I got my letter to say my surgery date is 17th Nov (day before my birthday).

Now I'm really scared. I have everyone telling me I don't need it stick to what I've been doing and I 'll be fine but I haven't lost anything in the last month and I know I will just slowly put all the weight back on again. I know if I don't do this I will regret it but I am so scared.

I have severe sleep apnoea (I stop breathing 100 times per hour) and I really want to stop having to use the CPAP machine.

Any advice from anyone?

Hi ThinkingSlim,

Just because the pre-op diet is working for you doesn't mean you don't need the band.

I, like you, have struggled with my weight before, losing some but usually gaining it all back and more. Don't take your name off that surgery list yet! Stick to your guns and go ahead with any pre-surgery appointments you have to take care of.

You began this process because you had done your research (I'm guessing that you did, anyway) and you decided the band was for you. You qualified to get the surgery, and now you're less than 3 weeks away.

I'm scheduled to be banded on the same day, as a matter of fact! We'll be band sisters - and I'm more than happy to help you through the process. The fact that you write your weight in kilos and not pounds makes me think you are not based in the U.S. - no matter where you are, know that we are here for you.

I applaud you for making a difficult decision - it was hard for me to realize I needed the help. I'm now 45 and have struggled with my weight for over 30 years!:)

Hang in there, band sister - it's gonna be a great ride and we'll both come out the other side MUCH healthier!

Hi EbonyRose

Thank you. I have decided 100% to have the surgery because I know if I don't I will gain all this weight and a bit more and have real regrets.

Good luck with your surgery too. We can compare notes afterwards.

By the way - you're right I'm from Australia.

ThinkingSlim,

That's great news - I'm glad you are focused and committed. Stay in touch, and we'll both be heathier and even more gorgeous this time next year!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
