I was banded on 10.16.08 and until the other night, things were going just fine. I was banded with a 4cc band and they left a fill of .8cc when they placed the band. I have been feeling a good deal of restriction and had just recently been able to finally drink Water without it taking 2 hours to finish a glass.

Anyway, I decided that I just HAD TO try a chicken wing (I know....really stupid!!!) at dinner the other night. Well, at first it was going well. I chewed and chewed and chewed, but it would never completely turn to mush and I swallowed. I was fine at first and instantly felt full, so I didn't even eat another one or anything else for that matter. Then....all of sudden it happened. I told my husband I was going to be sick and it was AWFUL. My chest hurt really bad and it was almost difficult to breathe. I threw up (I think it's called sliming) about 5 times and then had 2 dry heaves. All of this was within a 1 hour period. Well, I finally felt better, but my stomach area was really sore the next day. Also, I don't feel the same restriction that I did prior to this event.

Has my band slipped???? Have I ruined what I just had done???? Please help me....I'm really worried.:)

Well.. now you know what being stuck feels like. And why they reccomend you advance slowly through each stage of food. I'm sure now you'll be more careful, right? :) It's hard not to be tempted to eat things we shouldn't, isn't it? I'm certainly not perfect either. As far as damage, it's hard to tell at this point. Just pray that it's fine and try to be more careful. If your stomach is sore, I would go back to liquids/mushies for a few days to let it rest.

Ditto. Get back to what the doctor told you regarding eating...let your stomach HEAL fully. :)

Experience is the best teacher. I slimed once because I was eating too fast. Hasn't happened since!!

GOOD LUCK!!

Im with Jennifer. Its impossible for us to guess if the band slipped. You were indeed naughty! But my doc says you have to be pretty darn naughty to make the band actually slip.

It sounds like you got stuck (been there, on scrambled eggs of all things!). Getting stuck does not necessarily equal slippage. Take it back a step, go with liquids/mushies and let things heal! You will have follow ups with your doc and you could always bring up this incident - they will check it out if they are concerned.

It sounds like it got stuck. Why are you eating solids so soon after surgery? I did liquids 2 weeks and then mushies for 2 weeks before I even tried solids. Take it slow and don't rush the hard foods til you have time to heal. Its kinda odd you got stuck on a wing, that was the first thing solid I tried eating a month out and it got majorly stuck. One thing I found that works great when something is stuck is "Pinapple Juice". The minute you drink it within seconds it goes on down. Just take it slow and best of luck to you.

I know I shouldn't have done it, but I couldn't resist temptation. I have been following the diet EXACTLY as I was told with the exception of that 1 chicken wing. I am definitely back on plan and just want to know if I might have hurt myself. I don't have any really pain, no acid reflux, no problems sleeping and still eating a minimal amount, just not feeling that gurgling sound like I did before when I was eating or drinking.

It sounds like you just got stuck. You're fine. You probably feel less restricted cause you've healed more. As time went on post-op, I got my appetite back.

I'm surprised that it goes down for you when you drink something. Whenever I forget and drink something, or drink something too soon after eating, it instantly starts to force whatever I eat back up.

I got stuck on chicken, did the downward facing dog and was fine in less than a minute. Forget the pineapple juice...the dfd is the miracle.

Don't worry about being...um, what did someone call it?...oh yeah, 'naughty'. I had a sugar cookie the other day and loved every second of it. It's impossible to think you'll never eat things that aren't good for you...just do the moderation thing and you'll be fine.

chicken is rough for me and eggs too, usually because I tend to eat eggs way too fast.

Good luck and don't worry about cheating every once in a while...you'll get in more trouble denying yourself because then you increase your chances of binging. Enjoy your life!:)

My doctor said a slip would make you vomit every thing you try to eat. He has never had one slip, so what would he know.

I would go back to the liquids and then mushy again. You most likely have irritated your tummy with the upchucking. I have heard that to keep "Accent " tenderizer on hand and do a tiny little ball to swallow and it will dissolve with all the slime in the stoma area. It has probably happened to all of us. I had an incident like that after I had a fill my 3rd day I had some fish and wheat bread and something got stuck and I slimed and heaved for a coiuple of hours till my throat was very sore, I had to use Chloroseptic spray to ease the pain. So now whenI get a fill 2 day shakea and 2 days mushy then back to regular food. I have found that it takes about 6/7 days for a fill to add more restriction to my band. I have had 6 fills, total of 6.5 in a 10cc.Banded in Jan 08. I wish I had known about this website whenI first was banded. If would have been a lifesaver. A lot of good info and good suggestions from bandsters just like me, they all want to eat just a little more to get more satisfied. No-no, don't do it. slow down and take your time.:smile2:

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
