First Fill Tomorrow. Wish me Good Luck

Recommended Posts

My first fill is tomorrow and im nervous but scared yet excited. I do hope all goes well. I live 5 hours away from the doc and my biggest concern is the doc not filling aggressively. I of course will discuss the concern with him but im sure knowing the situation, they will give me a decent fill. I am scared the port isnt where it should be etc etc lol. just being a worry wart. Im sure all will go ok. i really hope this will jumpstart my weightloss again. Im losing decently still but I do need some restriction right now. Im noticing i can eat more than i used to, but i try to stick to my portions of 3 to 4 oz. I know my restriction is leaving because last night i was able to eat a kids turkey sandwich from quiznos, but took the upperhalf the bread off. But i ate it with my probs. NoT sayin that lil sandwich was too much but i would like to be able to take maybe 3 or 4 bites and get full now. how nice that would be. i also hope its done under flouroscopy. I just have so many concerns. but im excited to be at the six week mark. woohooo ive made it this far lol.

you'll do great! I was freaked out too. and the woman before me fainted when she was getting her fill!! so you can imagine!! But it was so EASY!!! it didnt hurt and I didnt look at what the doc was doing. dont be surprised though if the first fill is uneventful. it is for most bandsters. mostly because aggressive or not most docs like to creep up on the sweet spot so they dont over fill you. also even if you feel restriction at first it most likely will wear off as the fat around your stomach goes away.. and so u will need another fill. it usually takes several fills to get there.. it depends on your body and your band. I have had one fill and I have some restriction.. but I am getting another one this week because I need some more, but I feel it. some people have had 4 fills and say they dont feel restriction at all.. that just shows you how different we all are!!

congrats on your weightloss so far! I am jealous you have lost so much so fast.. I need to be more dedicated to the 1/2 cup portions with no snacking

I had my 1st fill on 10/24 an it wasnt as bad as i made it out to be...the only thing that hurt was the lidocaine that they used to numb the spot...he had me stand against the wall lift up shirt where he can see my stomache and when he found the port he stuck a needle in it while i was drinkin Water (not under flouro)..he told me once the water felt like it was gettin stuck to tell him and i did when it went down he added a little more for a total of 2cc in an 11cc band i go back 12/5 for another fill good luck to u

Congrats on your wonderful weight loss. You'll be just fine tomorrow. My surgeon doesn't do it under flouroscopy and it goes very nicely. He just has me do a partial sit up to tighten my muscles and it makes the port pop up some. He uses a small needle to numb me... barely feel it. Then does the fill.

Good luck and don't be nervous you'll be fine

Congrats!!! Once you get the first one under your belt it'll be fine... It doesn't really feel like anything. I have my 2nd fill tomorrow and I can't wait!

The first couple days after my fill I could tell and I still can but definitely need more restriction. I got 1.5cc to start.... Semi agressive according to the nurse.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
