First, I can't believe you chewed (and swallowed gum!!) at one week post-op. Second, I can't believe you then ate a bowl of mashed potatoes....at one week post-op. Sheesh. I hope you're OK...but seriously, it's hard to have sympathy for something like that.:blush:

I cannot believe what a BITCH you are! You do not even have a band so how the hell would you know who deserves sympathy or not?? It really is hard to have sympathy for such ignorance. Please educate yourself.

Hershey,

I hope you are ok dear. I am sure you will be though. Like others have said the band is on the outside of your stomach. I would just be really careful of the gum in the future.

Thanks "blueyedprincess"..... words were well spoken! I really enjoy this board and get great info, but like most people, we make mistakes and learn from them. Feel good this morning and don't feel like anything is stuck. Hopefully it cruised on down.

You don't need people to be nice to you right now. You need people to be honest with you and tell you how dangerous it was that you swallowed gum and that you ate mashed potatoes only one week post-op!!!

How do you think your doctor will react to the news??? Oh, it's OK honey, it'll probably pass, no worries, you'll be fine. I don't think so! What you did could have seriously hurt you and could have lead to you losing the band. You don't need nice, you need a swift kick in the pants to let you know that what you did was bad bad bad and to make sure you follow doctor's orders from here on out!

Bitch or not, I tell it like it is.

That being said, I truly do hope you are OK.

This is my last reply to you... and I will try to be classy about it... unlike you. EVERYbodys pre-op and postop orders are different. I CAN have mashed potatoes and DID!! You don't know me, don't judge me. Mistakes happen.... unless you are perfect.... like yourself??? Can't imagine it by your posts. I am too old to be on here arguing like a fucking kid with you. It's no wonder that others totally diagree with you as well. I was told as a kid to think before you speak. Don't get me wrong.... I DO speak my mind and tell it how it is..... But then again, I am tactful about it. I can only hope that you have had a bad day or whatever.... With that said.... blueyedprincess is right.... Her words were well spoken although I would have added a few more!

I too am allowed runny mashed potatoes so I think it depends on your dr. and dietician. I think we all can learn from each other's mistakes and also when something works out so I don't think anyone has the right to judge here especially someone who hasn't even been banded yet. Good luck to you

It's to bad when a question from one person gets to the point that this has gotten to. Cursing and personal attacks is not what this site is about. Like I suggested, reading about the band is VERY important and I realize how stressed you must be worrying about your band. Truthfully, I have had the band for over 2 years and it is not as fragile as you may think. Sure people have had problems. Everyone makes mistakes with the band and very few have major problems. Don't be so worried about it, otherwise it will be a long life with the band. If you have any questions in the future and you are afraid of being bashed, send me a private message and I will be glad to help and support you. Very Best Of Luck! Its a hard journey but well worth it.

Hershey, I hope all went well with the gum. It happened to me, and I had no problem. I use Altoids or either Listerine Breath Strips. They both work really well. Good luck to you!!!!

DId you ever hear back from your doc? What was his advice?

Before I left the hospital I was told not to chew gum (for gas reasons) and I miss it because I always did it at work. This just reminds me that I need to follow directions. I could definitely see me swallowing a piece without even thinking about it while working on a project.

I have always wondered what would happen if you did this. Hershey, are you OK? What did the doc tell you? I chew gum occasionally, but this scares me now. I hope things worked out for you. Let us know and ignore the bad comments. Nobody's perfect. Good luck!!!

Thanks for all the positive feedback... Believe it or not, my doctor never called.... but all seems to be fine.... By Saturday afternoon I felt fine. I've been able to eat and drink like "normal" so I guess I am in the clear. I will say..... I will not chew gum again. Mints are on my list for Sam's....

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...
