I am 8 weeks post op today and down 45#. I am somewhat discouraged as I havent had a fill yet. There have been 3 attempts for a fill and they couldnt find the port. I go in on Nov. 10 for the 4th attempt. I do not feel any restriction and believe my weight would be more with a restriction. I have been very regimented in watching what I eat and exercising.

Congrats Robert!! that is a great start. As long as you are losing without the fill. don't worry. They should do a FLouro on you with the barium when you go in for your fill. The more weight you lose the easier to find the port. I am 9 months post op. I had my surgery in Pinehurst. They all have been great. We also have support meeting once a month as well. Of course it could be that the port has flipped. I have heard a few on this forum say that has happened to them. I am down 62 lbs since 1/18/08. Only about 4lbs a month the last few. I exersize 1.5 hrs a day. As time goes by after a fill the restriction eases. I have had 6 fills and have 6.5 cc in a 10 cc band. We have to retrain ourselves to eat the right way and back away from the table still, keep track of everything you eat, drink and the times, allot yourself only 30 min max for eating a meal. no more. Make yourself accountable for what we eat.. Good luck, remember it is a tool, not majic, it wont happen without work.

45lb weight loss and only 8 weeks post op is awesome! Whatever your doing, keep doing it. I am sure they will fix the port issue and once you get a fill you will do just fine with the weight loss. I had my surgery on August 20th and have lost 30lbs. I have had 3 fills. I am up to 4.5cc in a 10cc band. I think this might be my sweet spot, but only time will tell. Keep us updated on your progress.

I would demand they do a barium swallow to find the position of your port. My doctor routinely does one with every fill.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
