Montgomery Alabama - New User

Just joined this forum. I have been part of obseityhelp.com since 1999. I am going to my 1st lapband seminar in Birmingham Alabama. I was referred to Dr DeWitt from my doctor in Montgomery. I almost got a VBG in 1999, but decided against it after being approved. I did not like the mortality rate and having the open surgery.

I have Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield. I don't think I will have a problem getting approved. I several co-mobidities and have a BMI of 41.

I hope to get through the process as quickly as possible and begin losing weight. I have diabetes, sleep apnea, depression, and problems with my feet. If I don't lose the weight, then I will have to get another operation on my foot (the 5th).

Just wanted to present myself. - God Bless.

Hi,

You are not far from me. I live in Tallassee. Having the lapband was the best decision I have ever made. In past, I have always packed on the pounds when I was stressed and depressed (I know that I am too blessed to be stressed and depressed but I won't go into details to save space). I have had 2 very hards months since the lapband (nothing due to the lapband) and I have still lost 27 pounds. I have not even had a fill yet. I am scheduled for my first one next week. I didn't use the doctors you are using but there are plenty on this site who have.

I have not regretted this for one minute. I would love to talk more and encourage you but I have to go for now! Feel free to contact me!

In His hands,

Rachelle

Just seen your post. Sorry i'm late but welcome to the forum. I believe Dr.Dewitt is the doctor my wife uses for her fills. She liked him very much. Keep everybody posted with your success.

We're glad to have you! Where are you going to the seminar at?

I was banded a year ago and would do it again if I had to! I too looked at other options like the gastric bypass but the mortality rates are higher. The lapband to me is one of the safest options! You'll do great!

GOOD LUCK!!!

my fiancee is using DeWhitt and he seems to have a really easy pre and post-op program. I used Weinstein in Mobile and his was pretty hard on my will to comply (darn McDonalds) DeWitt's program was low carb starting at 10 days before and clear liquid at three days prior. Recovery was also faster at 1 week of puree food instead of my doc's recommended two weeks. I'm sure everyone is different. Down side to Dewitt (for me) is if I want to use him when I move back to Montgomery, he charges $100 and doesn't file any insurance for fills.

btw, I'm new too. banded 5/1

I use Dr DeWitt and love him and I live in Montgomery also. I knew that he charged $100 for fills, but I did not know that he would not file insurance for it. My 2 fills have been included so far because of being within 90 days. Did your wife file with insurance for the $100 to insurance?

The $100 is for patients who did not use him for the band. When I talked to them they were a bit snotty. While they don't file insurance for the adjustment when you use another doc, they also don't provide info so that you can file insurance on it either. My fiancee hasn't had Dewitt give her one yet but I think adjustments will cost her like under $60 as he will file for her.

I'm gonna stick with Weinstein. Nice guy although I had a heck of a time at the Mobile Infirmary. fills are $56
