Need your help and advice

Recommended Posts

I've been banded for 2 years and lost weight right away, 80 pounds in 6 months then blah, nothing. So I left it alone no gaining no losing but I've finally decided to go and get another fill tomorrow and start all over again. I still need to loose 60 more pounds.

Here's my question, I have to have foot surgery next month on my second foot. Both feet had those heel spears, so will surgery hurt my band when they go down your throat with that NG tube?

I'm really worrying I may have to cancel the surgery. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

Sherri

Sherry.. Have you talked to your foot surgeon and told them you have the band?? Just make sure they don't do the NG tube blind and I think you will be ok, but best to make sure you advise your surgeon you have a band.. Good lUCK

Thank you for your reply. I haven't seen the actual surgeon yet just his PA said it had to be done. I see the surgeon next wednesday. I just kind of wanted to know before I told him because most doctors don't have a clue that I've went to about the band. I had xrays for a kidney stone and they flipped out and called in a specialist. I had already told them I had it but they didn't know what in the world it was, lol.

Hugs,

Sherri

Hi Sherri,

They will not put an NG tube down it will be and ET tube. An NG tube goes to the stomach. A ET tube goes down your wind pipe so that you breath durning surgery. I do not think its going to be a issue.

Good Luck

Tammy

Why would you have a NG tube for foot surgery?

They will intubate you for a general anaesthetic but it wont go into your stomach.

Hope you heal up fast, I've had heel spur surgery before and it was very successful for me - I had heelspurs on the backs of my heels rather than underneath. I had both feet done at once, lol, thank goodness I was only 18 and had my parents to look after me. Two feet and crutches, sheesh.

Good luck with the op and the continued weight loss. I agree I doubt you'll need an NG tube but to be safe mention your band to the anaethetist - lets face it they must have to perform emergency ops on us bandsters on some occasions and are more than equipped to deal with these situations. I didn't have to have my band unfilled when I had my gallbladder out but it was my band surgeon that performed the surgery.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
