You can really tell you are out of shape when....

Recommended Posts

....you leave you house on Long Island (elevation about 5' above sea level) and go to the top of Pikes Peak in Colorado (elevation 14,000' plus). I was really huffing and puffing up there. Good think I am supposed to get banded next month. There has to be a lot less of me before I take up mountain climbing.http://www.lapbandtalk.com/images/smilies/modern/blink.gif

Shoot I don't need a mountain to tell me I'm out of shape. I can't even walk up a flight of stairs without huffing and puffing. I'd die on the mountain IF I made it to the top. Come to think of it I'm breathing hard just sitting here typing this reply lol

I forgot to mention...there is a road all the way to the top of Pike's Peak. We drove up there in a rented Nissan Altima lol. I got out of breath walking from the car to the gift shop!!

Haha lol. I thought you climbed, I was thinking shoot I wish I could walk without feeling winded. But that's OK your get it together. It's always harder to breath at high elevations anyway when your used to being near sea level.

Those mountains are very special to me! I was on top of the mountain when I decided I needed a change.

If you go north to Rocky Mountain National Park in Estes Park you can go up Trail Ridge Road to the top of the mountain. It was the summer of 2007, I had just about died walking up the steps to the top from the welcome center and it was then that I knew I needed a change. It was so beautiful and I felt like I was literally on top of the world, but I couldn't enjoy it because I was huffing and puffing so bad. Here I am a little over a year past, and I am 100lbs less than when I was on that mountain.

I owe my new life to that vacation to the mountains and I can't wait to go back and enjoy it in my new body! Next time I want to run up those steps!

Good luck with your upcoming band date!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
