Cheese anyone-14 days post op??????????

Recommended Posts

Your safest bet is to just do what your doctor says. If the directions are unclear, call his office or your nutritionist tomorrow and ask. Every doctor seems to have a different pre and/or post op diet so it's best to ask directly what's "safe and acceptable" and what isn't! :)

I did not get cheese until I hit the soft food/mushies stage. I first tried fat free cheese - what that is, is actually rubber. It does not melt... it just turns from little shredded pieces of rubber into a blob of rubber. Then I tried Smart Balance shredded cheese... again... no luck. It doesn't even melt and has a funny taste. I am now having a TINY bit of 2% shredded cheese. Not often, but every now and then. I'd rather have a tiny bit of good cheese than a bigger serving of rubber or unknown wannabe cheese. I love cheese and wont give it up - but have to limit it. My doctor believes in eating well - in moderation!! Good luck to you!! Becky

I had the laughing cow lite cheese by the time I was where you are, but I was allowed mushy food. Its a very soft cheese, the lite is 35 calories for 1 oz. Its spreadable, but I just eat it how it is.

We were allowed it on nutrisystem because the fat content is low and its meets the Protein requirements.

I had a friend once who said "I would kill for cheese" I always felt sympatico with her viewpoint. cheese is high in fat but also has Calcium (especially many of the 2% milk grated ones like Kraft) and high in Protein, too. I can't imagine any lifestyle I could maintain that didn't include cheese. But in my preop, and then early post op phase, I avoided it per my doctor's instructions.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
