Info on Breakdown of LapBand Financial Portion

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone. I am new to this website and I am desperately trying to find some way to have LapBand surgery; however, I just don't have the money available. The procedure, I was told, cost approximately $13,00 and Insurance WILL NOT cover one penny of it. Does anyone know of any way to have this procedure done, maybe a trial or experimentation, or group, etc. I am working hard and making enough each month to get by but I cannot get a personnel loan and don't know what else to do. I am approximately 150 lbs. overweight and my health is at risk. I am NOT asking for a handout, just some information to help me get this surgery done. I appreciate any and all suggestions. Thank you, in advance. dbarry

I have heard of several who have gotten a part time job with benefits that do cover the surgery. Starbucks is one who offers flexible hours and their insurance does cover it. I had a friend who went that route.

Other options are to pay into a medical flex account if it is offered where you work, then it is pre tax $$$$.

Have you called and checked on your insurance? Many DO cover it. The only way to find out if yours does, and what the requirements are is to call them. Then you can find out if they do not cover it if it is the insurance or your employer who declines. If it is your employer, you can discuss it with them, and now would be a good time since most companies are heading into open enrollment, and all with insurance for next year right now.

Good Luck.....sometimes things work out that you never expect!!

Please go to this web site. Mexico Weight Loss Surgery

I just had my surgery on 10-10-08. I have lost 15lbs. so far. It will give you loan options. Also I know that you can get loans if you have a title to your car from some companies. GOOD LUCK

I also have heard that Starbuck's insurance covers it and have thought if I'd known that ahead of surgery I would have gladly taken a part time job there to get the insurance.

I've also heard of people who have successfully fought their insurance companies and managed to get it covered. Having an employer that will also go to bat for you with the insurance company can help.

But in the end I personally went self pay. I paid for it with my rewards credit card then transferred it to a 3.9% life credit card offer I received. Then I calculated how much I'd have to pay to get it down to zero over 5 years and it was around $250/mo. When I subtracted out the money I thought I could save in food and possibly prescription co-pays and other medical bills that could be lowered as I lost weight I was able to convince my husband that the true monthly cost was actually going to be much lower.

Good Luck!

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
