revision scheduled for oct.21st NERVOUS

Recommended Posts

i have had my band for a little over 2 years, for the first year it was pretty good. of course there were the days that i could not eat anything but i did have 110 pound loss after 1 year. then everything went wrong. i had a death in the family and was very upset, i stopped being able to eat and after about 8 days of that i couldn't drink either. i got unfilled and within a month and a half i gained 25 pounds  i went back to get refilled and the nurse said they needed a current flouroscopy when they did that they discovered that apparently i had been overfilled for sometime. so basically they said sorry we can't fill you and have a nice day. so for about 9 months i floundered around gaining back about 75 of the 110 pounds i lost. i finally got up the courage to see a different doctor about a revision. i was suppossed to have it on sep 3rd but i cancelled it due to hurricane gustav, glad i did even though gustav missed us ike got us good. i don't think i could have gotten through the ike devistation a week and a half out of surgery. so here i am 2 weeks away from my revision and i am terrified :). so i was hoping that there would be some people here that have gone from band to rny that could tell me that they did it and everything turned out great. i just don't want to fail again. and i don't want to go through all of this (major surgery, pain, possible problems) and it be for nothing. i worked really hard for my weight loss with the band and i was so proud of what i accomplished and then to have everything taken away was devistating. anyway thanks for letting me ramble and vent. i really look forward to hearing from people that have gone through this.

Hi, I have not had a revision, or the problems with my band that you have. I am so sorry you went through that, it sounds awful. I truly hope you have great success with your revision surgery.

i have had my band for a little over 2 years, for the first year it was pretty good. of course there were the days that i could not eat anything but i did have 110 pound loss after 1 year. then everything went wrong. i had a death in the family and was very upset, i stopped being able to eat and after about 8 days of that i couldn't drink either. i got unfilled and within a month and a half i gained 25 pounds  i went back to get refilled and the nurse said they needed a current flouroscopy when they did that they discovered that apparently i had been overfilled for sometime. so basically they said sorry we can't fill you and have a nice day. so for about 9 months i floundered around gaining back about 75 of the 110 pounds i lost. i finally got up the courage to see a different doctor about a revision. i was suppossed to have it on sep 3rd but i cancelled it due to hurricane gustav, glad i did even though gustav missed us ike got us good. i don't think i could have gotten through the ike devistation a week and a half out of surgery. so here i am 2 weeks away from my revision and i am terrified . so i was hoping that there would be some people here that have gone from band to rny that could tell me that they did it and everything turned out great. i just don't want to fail again. and i don't want to go through all of this (major surgery, pain, possible problems) and it be for nothing. i worked really hard for my weight loss with the band and i was so proud of what i accomplished and then to have everything taken away was devistating. anyway thanks for letting me ramble and vent. i really look forward to hearing from people that have gone through this.

I can understand your fear of failing again as I had that feeling myself. I on the other hand was never successful with the band and was not the right choice for me. So I can't say I lost 100 lbs and gained it back because I never lost it in the first place. So basically after a year of it not working for me I started getting reflux issues and my surgeon removed it last Friday. I chose not to revise because I didn't want to go through that fear of failure and the stress it caused me.

I would never suggest any type of WLS to another person because I couldn't do it in good conscious. I can tell you though that I am much happier now that mine is removed. I can also tell you that my 20 year old daughter had RNY surgery last May and has lost over 120 lbs since then and so far is doing well even though she's gone through 2 strictures which caused a fairly quick weightloss which is not normal.

So even though my situation is a bit different than yours I hope some of my information has been helpful. I also think you should discuss your fears and issues with WLS with a professional before going on to have another surgery. Good luck to you Nancy.

Hi Nanook. I'm glad you are feeling better. I'm happy for your daughter too but strictures sound a bit painful. I recently moved to St Charles, Mo, so I haven't been at lapbandtalk for a while. I hope things continue to get better for you.

Hi jsewell. I can understand how you would be nervous. At least you can look forward to things getting better. I know the stress you went through and then the weight gain just feels awful. I haven't experienced a revision but I think it is a fear we all have. Just know that things wil get better after your revision. I look forward to hearing how things progress. I know it isn't a popular thing to say, but I will say extra prayers that things go well for you.

Tina

Sounds like you may live in or around Houston. Do you mind if I ask who your doctor was. I am looking into the surgery and want some more information on doctors.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
