Hey all! I was banded on August 18, 2008. I have only lost 17 pounds. I am getting really frustrated here. I have had 2 fills so far and they haven't helped me at all. I still can eat like I could before I was banded. I don't, but I could. I eat and about an hour or so later, I want to eat again. I think that I may be dealing with mental hunger, but it is driving me crazy over here.

I thought that once I had this band that I'd be able to lose this excess weright. After losing the 17lbs, I have just stopped losing. It makes me feel that I have done all of this for nothing. I have thought about taking diet pills to help with the mental hunger part, what do you guys think, should I take them or not?

I have my 3rd fill scheduled for Tuesday. I already have 5cc in a 9cc band. I am so hoping that this next fill will make a difference.

I am right there in the same boat with you. I been banded since July 24, 2008 and I have lost 17lbs. Since my last fill almost a month ago I haven't lost anymore. I actually think I was doing better before my last fill. I am so nervous to go back to the dr to weigh this time. I go a week from tomorrow. I can eat. I have to eat a little slower or i get a little choked sometimes but thats it. I know I eat from mentally telling myself I'm hungry. BUT...that was why I ate anyway. I'm really having to try. Purposely eating more slowly is helping me. Although I have bit my jaw more times than I care to count because of all the chewing. Good luck and please let me know if you come out of your slump. Our situations sound very similar and I went to this sight for some help! Thanks.

I was banded on July 2 and have only lost 17 lbs as well, and I am getting a bit discouraged. I already had 2 fills, and have not lost any additional weight with the fills. I noticed that my food is getting stuck more often when I eat, however, I haven't lost any more weight. I have another fill scheduled for next week and I hope that one helps. I don't feel like I am overeating, but the scale just doesn't want to move. Everyone is different when it comes to weight loss, so try to not to get too discouraged (and I will try and take my own advice too!) Good luck!

I don't have any good advice (wish I did) but have to ask...are you eating Protein first, then veggies, and then fruit, and then finally breads and grains? No Snacks? I get my 1st fill 10/9 and that's how my doc has told us to eat...and to keep the cals to around 1200 or so.

ok im not trying to be rude or mean please dont take this the wrong way. the band is not there for it to be miracle band its there to keep you in check and remind you not to over eat. you still have to eat the right foods and EXCERISE. you have to remember this is a life changing event not just a weight losing event. i got banded on july 3rd and i have lost about 48lbs and yes im always hungry and i can eat alot too i dont feel the restriction as i should but i take it day by day and i exercise i go to the gym 6 times a week for an hour and half and sometimes 7 times a week. it hasnt be easy for me i had two babies one a 2 year old and one that is 4 and my metabolism is not there i can assure you that so i have to bring it back up. you can't expect this band you have to do all the work for you its there to help but if you dont change your life as in put some effort into it then it will not get any better. you went through the surgery now use it as a tool not as a miracle. always remember its not a race. if you wanted this to go quick you could have went for the gastric bypass but then in a year or two what would happen? there is a chance for you to go back to your old eating habits. so think of it as a life changing band and not just as a miracle band.

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
