Well now I know what sliming is...

Recommended Posts

Last night I ate my dinner a little too fast and got that horrible stuck feeling. I've had it before but it's always passed on through pretty quickly. After a few minutes of the chicken dance it was still stuck and hurting and I starting feeling like it was trying to come up, but instead what I got was a flood of saliva. I've seen people describe it but you don't understand it until it happens, it was so weird! It was like my esophagus was full and overflowing, no gagging or throwing up type feeling, just a solid stream of yuck coming up from my throat. Thankfully it was clear and tasteless, there was just so much of it and so slimy! After a few minutes a few little bits of chewed up chicken came up and it was over. Very strange experience that would have scared me to death if I hadn't already read about it on here. I sure learned my lesson to chew chew chew!

Wow, Lauralee! Are you okay today? No after-effects? I know I've been eating too fast and not chewing enough. My surgeon put a small fill in at the time of surgery but I haven't gone for my first post-surgery fill yet (next Tuesday). I'm so afraid I'm now going to get stuck. I really DON'T want to go there!

I'm glad you didn't panic! Even though it's nasty, it's good to know what can happen, in case it does!

Take care!

Yeah there didn't seem to be any after effects, but I'm doing Protein Shakes today just in case something got irritated. I did have to wonder why my doctor never mentioned this could happen. If I hadn't read about it here I would have been in a total panic.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
