When Can I Get My First Fill!

Recommended Posts

I was banded May 31. I lost some weight prior to surgery and then some after, think i am losing inches opposed to pounds. BUT i dont feel much restriction. I am hungry all the time. They had me make an appointment for 2 months after my pre-op appt but they said I had to at least be on solids for a months before even considering adjustment. Is this the normal time frame? I am not losing weihgt, trying to eat right, BUT.......it is getting discouraging!

The Inamed handbook says that your first fill should be 4-6 weeks after surgery. Depending your recovery and the surgeon.

Its normal to be hungry till that first fill though. Just hang in there and try to maintain your current weightloss! And like you, when Im not losing pounds, I find that Im losing inches. Thats a motivating key to this journey!

My first fill was at 6 weeks post op. I deffinatly needed one and had been at a stand still for a couple weeks. I got a fill and started losing again. I just got my second fill at 3 months post op and can really tell a difference in my restriction level. If you are hungry all the time you should call your dr and see if they will fill you even if it is justy a small fill it could help to get that weight lose going again.... But like Paula said sometimes you lose inches and the scale doesn't show it but your clothes sure do. just try and mantain right now and get in for a fill as soon as your dr feels comfortable with giving you one. Good luck!!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
