Wearing pants post op

Recommended Posts

I'll be okay wearing pajama pants the day of surgery and the following 3 days, but after that I'll probably need to wear some regular pants.

How much of the swelling will still be there on day 4 post op? What kind of pants could you wear? The incisions are above the navel, right? Do you think I'll be able to wear pants that fit loosely and comfortably now at four days post op?

TIA!

Pants were not an issue for me because the incisions were much higher.. now my bra.. ouchie! There was in incision right below my bust line and I had to make sure I wore the old.... stretchy bras for a couple weeks.

good luck!

Depends on YOU!

I had no swelling whatsoever and had no issues with clothing at all. Others here really struggled with it...have you ever had surgery before? Have you swelled with that surgery before? If you have nothing to compare it to....this will probably be an unknown until you are off the table and being wheeled home! :)

I agree. Wearing pants weren't a problem due to the location of the incisions. The problem was my bra - the bottom elastic of the bra hit right on a small incision. I stayed home for two weeks after surgery and just wore a really baggy t-shirt so I didn't have to wear my bra.

I got out of my sweats and into my pants two days post-op because there was a going away party for a close family friend that I really needed to attend. Nobody knows I had the surgery except my husband and kids, and nobody was the wiser. I meant to take my extra strength Tylenol before the event, but I forgot. I could definitely tell I had been standing for two hours when I got home, but I did just fine. I still had some abdominal swelling, but I guess with the weight I lost pre-op my pants weren't too tight.

I wore jeans home from the hospital, it wasnt an issue for me. I didnt have much trouble with underwired bras either. My incisions were nicely in the middle away from both braline and waistband - although I've always worn lowish rise jeans.

It was nice to take them off and put something comfy on when I got home though, sweatpants and the like will be just what you need.

Although my incisions aren't near my pants line, my stomach is still very swollen 6 days out. My biggest issue is the bra line:cursing: (like others have mentioned). All of my incisions go right across my bra line. I don't know if the doctor was trying to put them some where that they could be hidden, but I have had to leave the girls unattended for now. Thankfully, I have not gone back to work yet.

My port incision is very low. I put jeans on after the first week, but had to wear low, low rise to keep them off my incision.

Bra's were never a prob for me.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
