At my wits end!

Recommended Posts

Y'all, I don't know what to do. I am 2 years post op (as of Monday) and the first year I did great, dropped 60 pounds and 43 inches. Well, the 2nd year not only have I not lost anything but now I've gained 18 lbs! I have been filled and unfilled and filled again. I feel some restriction but not like i should (I have a 4.0 band and I'm at 3.6 cc's) and the doctor won't do another fill because he thinks i'm not losing because of my food choices, not amounts. I am literally working my tail off, exercising daily and keeping track of everything I put in my mouth. I am staying under 900 calories a day and the pounds still aren't coming off, at all! I don't know what to do, please help me. Am I completely alone in all of this or has someone else gone through this as well?

I work for the bariatric surgeon and have contact with the dietician daily. She says that I"m right on target with my calories. I am using fitday.com and making sure that I'm under 30% fat daily and it is not making a difference. Thanks for your reply, any thoughts are welcomed!

I was once in a similar situation while dieting. I just stopped losing weight. No matter what I did I could't drop a pound. I finally ran into a trainer that complimented me on my weightloss. I had a break down and told her what was going on. She suggested that I up my fat intake 10 grams daily. She simply said that sometimes you have to fight fire with fire. To my amazment, it worked!!

I was not banded then so I don't know how this will effect you. I lost a total of 30 lbs with that method. I only gained the weight back because I completly stopped eating healthy and working out due to some serious family issues.

Now I am being banded as I have gained a large amount of weight! I can't wait! :cursing:

Keep your head up! Let me know what happens. PM me if you want.

You sound like my sister....seems like she just can't lose anymore, but in her case it was because she eats out all the time. Even though she thought she was eating the right foods, she didn't consider the difference between the way food is prepared in restaurants and the way we fix food at home. (she also liked to have a margarita before her dinner) She is now eating home more and laying off the drinks and sats she is finally starting to lose weight again. Slowly, but it is coming off.

All I'm saying is: Are you being totally honest with yourself when it comes to what you are putting in your mouth. Please don't take offense, I am just playing devils advocate here. Remember, I'm the same as you. I have been the same weight, up 1-2 and down 1-2lbs for several months, so I'm not throwing stones.

I wish you the best of luck. Joanie :cursing:)

I've asked myself that a few times and I honestly think I am being honest. I either write down the information on the nutrition panel or I look it up on calorieking.com. Sometimes I even overestimate what I am eating to make sure I'm counting enough. I don't know what my problem is and it is very frustrating. My surgeon has told me numerous times that "the lap-band doesn't work for everyone" and then sympathetically smiles. Makes me want to sock him! I guess all I can do is keep trying, huh?

I don't blame you, I would feel like socking him too! I hope whatever problem you're having works itself out so you can continue with your weightloss journey! Just don't give up....I know, easoer said than done, right? You are not alone...we have all been there and we are all here for you now. Joanie :cursing:)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
