I'm pre op. Whenever I don't eat much or skip a meal I get a serious headache that usually doesn't go away until I eat, take some meds, AND take a nap.

Will this continue post op? I'm not sure if this happens because my brain is hungry or because my stomach is hungry.

Post op there will be a period of time (each surgeon is different) where you will HAVE to go without food in order for your band to heal into place. If you think its "head hunger" (ie psychological) then you need to find a way to deal with it. Because IF you eat against your surgeon's rules post op you risk tearing the band loose, slippage, and/or erosion down the line. So if you physically can't go without food then tell your surgeon; the band is probably not for you.

I know I'll have to go through a phase of liquids then mushies. I'm not worried about that, and if it came down to it I'd just deal with having a headache for a month. "the band isn't for you" isn't a thought that would occur to me over this issue. I'm just wondering if anyone else used to have headaches from under eating and doesn't have them post band.

I wasn't hungry at all the first week on Clear Liquids even though I was getting very little down, but on the last day of that week I started to feel the headache/weak/shaky feeling of body hunger. Once I was on full liquids it stopped and I haven't had any more trouble. I'm surprised that I don't have trouble with this because I got the hunger headaches quite frequently before. I think it's related to what your body is used to taking in and now that I'm used to the lower intake, I've adjusted. If you spread your calories out over the day and don't go for long periods without taking anything in it should be fine.

Kaytiebugs I'm glad that whyever you have them, they won't stop you from getting the band! And hopefully they'll go away or someone can help you. Worst case, can you just take off of work/obligations and "be good to yourself" for that 1-2 week all liquid phase? Good luck! :cool2:

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
