I am 2 days post op and supposed to start on full liquids. I am to drink my Protein Shakes and I tried to drink one today. It was awful. Waaay to sweet. I just can't stomach the idea of drinking another one! Did anyone else have this issue? I know I have to get the Protein in. Any suggestions?

Becky. I can relate. I have to drink 2 a day too. I liked them better before the surgery. Now it takes me a llllllooooonnnnnggggg time to sip them. Starting Saturday, I am down to one a day. My doctor wants me to have one a day forever. I guess if I know I will get a good lunch and a good dinner, I can live with it. I think I will ask him when I go back in a month if there is anything else I can do besides the shakes. What kind are you using?? I'm still using the Atkins Advantage - switching off between chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry. Good luck to you. How are you feeling when you aren't drinking a shake? I hope you are feeling/healing well. Becky

I've tried a few and don't really like any of them. I can, however, tolerate the Slim Fast Carb Control. I pretty much only like the vanilla. It's also not great, but good enough. I love the convience of them too.

It amazes me how different all these doctors are. Mine fussed at me for drinking them. He prefers we get all of our protien from solid food. I explained that since the surgery, I'm just not a Breakfast person any more so he said it was OK, but even if I could do a protien bar, it was better than the shake. I used to love Breakfast, but I quickly found out that all the breakfast food I love is pure carbs, there aren't alot of high protien choices, especially if you can't eat eggs and I'm one of the unlucky people whose band doesn't get along with eggs.< /p>

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
