Hey, Can I ask what PB means? I wonder if you and I are worried about the same thing, I have not had a fill yet and I have just been eating regular stuff and trying to do my best to eat less of it. I am nervous that I did some damage or the band slipped.

Don't get too alarmed if you have a PB. Just learn from it and avoid having another one.

You can still have slippage without a fill. Early on, the sutures around the band are still healing so they can break causing the band to slip. That can happen from eating too soon, over-eating or eating wrong. But don't let one PB throw you into a panic.

A PB is an anacronym for what we call a "productive burp" (don't know who came up with that one!). If food gets *really* stuck you will begin producing extra mucus which is the body's way of trying to lubricate the food to get it down. Sometimes that is not enough and the extra mucus, along with the stuck food, starts to feel a bit uncomfortable. If the food can't go down, then it must come up....hence the PB.

It's best to avoid PB's by taking small bites and chewing well, but sometimes they can't be helped.

Why are you nervous that you've done damage or that the band has slipped??

If you had a slipped band, you'd know it. You wouldn't be able to keep hardly ANY food or liquids down at all.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
