No Sleep... HELP

Recommended Posts

Hi. Just got my band Friday and I am feeling great. Not gassy, no pain meds, ......but... I can't sleep. I've tried the bed, the couch, the chair... nothing is comfortable. I'm still in this hotel in Houston. I am going back to Albuquerque on Tuesday and I'm sure it will be better once I get home. I miss my Lazy Girl!!!! Any suggestions??? Becky (1:10am)

Have you tried the bed with pillows along your side to prop you up?

are you taking the pain meds? don't they make you sleepy?

you could go look at yourself in the bathroom mirror, dim the lights and repeat in a monotone "you are getting VERRRRY SLEEEPY" LOL ok maybe not...

I say take the pain meds. Even if you are not in any pain, the medicine will make you more comfortable, and you will be able to catch some

Zzzzzzzzz's. :rolleyes2:

I had problems sleeping too. It took me 2 weeks before I slept good. It was the discomfort...I just felt like I didn't need sleep. It drove me nuts. I wondered if it wasn't a reaction to the anathesia.

I slept well, But that's my personality.

Have you tried going for a long walk before you attempt to go to bed. (long for such a short period post op) It really helped me to walk up and down the hallway about 10 to 15 times. Course it took me that many trips to get Water and meds, and kids settled. LOL

I would just like to say this....pain meds are for pain and should be used for sleep only when it is pain that is stopping you from going to sleep or waking you. Pain meds slow down the gut and that can cause gas and other discomforts so using them appropriately is important. If the discomfort is mild and your surgeon approves it use tylenol or even tylenol pm to help with sleep issues. I wish you some good zzzzz's soon!

First my surgeon said to use the pain meds for both, sleep and pain. Second, I was lucky and was able to lay nearly flat the first night, and flat the second night, and already can sleep on my tummY (where I'm most comfortable). Third, Christine, whoever told you it makes you gasy is WRONG! Been on pain meds for YEARS! Constipated YES! yup, it sure does. But if you're taking one dose a day it's not gonna be a huge issue.

Becky, you do what you have to to get some sleep. Because being overtired will lead to making poor food/drink choices.

Hugs

If you are referring to my post, you can have discomfort w/out being in physical pain. That is why the doctors prescribe pain meds for after surgery. You need to sleep in order to heal the body. Not getting sleep will cause the body more harm than any pain medicine. I'm not suggesting to use pain meds inappropriately...but if it makes it easier to get comfortable with the added bonus of sleep, WHY NOT?

Didn't mean to start something. I only took pain meds for one night after my surgery. Not only did they not help me sleep, they gave me a bad headache. Today is day 13 in this hotel (Hurricane Ike). You are soooooooo right Restless - I AM SICK OF THIS HOTEL!!! I fly home tomorrow and I can hear my Lazy Girl calling. I'm sure I will sleep better once I get home. Remember - we are all different, we all have different surgeons, we all have different post-op instructions. What works for one, might not work for all. I asked for advice and I really appreciate the tips you all gave me. Thank you!! Becky

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
