Thinking about gettin banded

Recommended Posts

:unsure:Hello everyone,

My name is Angie and I live in Chesterfield, Va. I am 5'2 and I weigh 282lbs. I want the band but my main concern is the extra skin? Is there anybody out there who has used Dr. Elliott in Richmond,Va? I am AN RN so I understand the importance of following the post-op orders. I am going to a seminar on tomorrow.

Angie if you're an RN you surely know that having a little excess skin (and you know it depends on how much and how long it's been stretched, your genes, your skin condition, your diet, and a million other things) is way better than being obese?

I look at it this way...I would rather face plastic surgery than open heart surgery to correct blockage or some such.

Don't borrow trouble! You may not even HAVE extra skin! You won't know until you lose and see how things settle!

yeah you are right. I saw shows about people who had the bypass and had to have tons of skin removed it just freaked me out. lol

LOL you KNOW better! I'm a nursing student and I can GIVE a shot but still can't stand to watch it! Turn those shows OFF! LOL

By the time excess skin is an issue for you (if it ever is) you will feel so good and be so frisky that a little plastic touch up won't even slow you down! :girl_hug:

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
