but can someone tell me - Roughly, how much in food equivelant is 100g of Protein?

Thanks xx

100 g of Protien is about the equivelant of 1 pound of Beef. I don't know about you but I couldn't eat that much if my life depended on it after being banded. Protein Shakes are your friend.

What is a 25g Protein shot? My doctor told me I had to get 60 grams of Protein in a day. I thought that was a lot but now it seems like it might not be enough.

They are small 2.9 oz. vials of fruit flavored protein that usually come in 25G and 42G. They can be downed in one or two swigs.

You can view them here: http://www.nashuanutrition.com/store/index.php?target=products&product_id=170

I buy mine at the local Vitamin Shoppe

The only time a lost clumps of hair, in which my daughter asked if I was on chemo, was when my thryoid issue was finally diagnosed correctly. Now I am taking synthroid .88 mg every day and no more Hair loss, but I worry what will happen once I am banded.

I had thyroid related hair loss a couple years ago. I had been on Synthroid .50 mcg for a couple years then all of sudden my levels went out of whack. When my dose was raised to .75 the hair loss finally slowed then stopped. What I have experienced recently was comparable to that hair loss.

It can be done if you are not too tight and you focus on protein at every meal. I agree that Protein Shakes are your friend if you need protein but my doctor does not want me using them as a meal. I have to get three solid meals in a day then use the shakes as between-meal supplements.

Yesterday’s food Intake:

Breakfast

½ cup eggbeaters 12G Protein

1tbs shredded cheese 3G Protein

Mid-Morning

Worldwide shake 35G Protein

lunch

1 fish filet 19G Protein

Mid-Afternoon

Protein Shot 25G Protein

dinner

½ Hamburger Patty with slice of Tomato 14G Protein

1 tbs shredded chees on HB patty 3G protein

½ C Beans 10G

Total: 121 G

Thanks for all of the advice. I pretty much only eat Protein. and i do my shakes. my thyroid leves are ok, had them checked about a month ago. I am still trying to figure out how Jodi gets all that food in. Wow, i have a hard time getting in a half of chicken breast and for get anyfood before noon. well, i will continue to search for something to stop the madness of the Hair loss. i think i will add Biotin to the multi Vitamin, which i will also change out to a chewable. thanks all.

PatticNJ,

I think that your last post explains the cause of both your hairloss and your stalled weight loss. I am not sure what your doctors guidelines are, but my doctor would tell you that you are too tight and need more nutrition and more calories. If you only eat Protein, can't eat before noon and can barely eat a half a chicken breast, there is no way you are getting in enough Protein or calories.

I hardly think that 1/2 cup eggs w/cheese (112 cal) , 1 fish filet (120 cal) and 1/2 hamburger patty with 1/2 c Beans (210 cal) is too much food for one day. All of that adds up to less than 500 calories.

Add an 11oz can Worldwide shake (160 cal) and a 3 oz shot of protein (100 cal) and it is a grand total of 702 calories. Even that falls below what many sucessful bandster here get in one day.

You need the protein and other nutrients to stop the hairloss and you need calories to burn fat, so you need to eat more to get your weight loss going again.

Jodi,

Thanks, I think my last fill is giving up a little. I can actually eat now. I am able to get some more food in me. I am still very tight in the morning, but my Dr said that sometimes it is from not drinking all night. I can usually eat around 11, but then i try to eat my lunch or a snack. I have a nice fruity shake for Breakfast, with Protein milk and fruit, it equals about 350 calories and 35 g Protein. then for lunch i have chili, or tuna or chicken, with some crackers and tomatoe. for dinner it is whatever i make the family minus the rice, Pasta or potatoes. So last night it was 4 slices of London Broil with some corn. I've never been one to journal my food, otherwise WW would have worked for me LOL. ok gotta check the crying baby.

thanks,

Patti

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
