Accountability

Recommended Posts

Yes Mike, I too support the "it's ok if the weight is going down or the same, but I'm not gonna play if my weight goes up" reasoning!!

OK RSG - dream up a good table, and we will all do our bit in being accountable to each other and ourselves.

Stuff like this tends to make me sabotage myself... like the posts about agreeing to exercise "X" amount a week or lose "X" amount by "THIS DATE".. stuff like that screws me up and then I end up not doing it.

Me and this girl from work were checking in with each other every week for 8 weeks and I lost less weight when I had this "competitive" thing going on with her than I did normally. I'm just weird like that.

Like before the band and I would be on a diet and lose, lose, lose and the second I would tell somebody I was on a diet I wouldn't lose anymore. It's weird.

I do keep my ticker updated though, each pound I lose I immediately change it. And I'm not saying this is a competitive thing, I"m just saying that by doing it, it would mess me up. I also keep my own private excel spreadsheet of my weekly weigh in.

Whatever works for you, Cool Crystal. I am the opposite; I benefit from posting certainly not to compete (I'm a one-half pound a week loser, I'd never win!), but rather it provides a little more incentive. Knowing and respecting how you think is critical to being successful. Isn't it great we are all different?

I did my walking again last night, so I met my committment of 3X this week. I will be weighing (at the Y) on Mondays...I haven't yet let that enemy of my psyche (a scale) into my house!

OOh, the scale... I know about that all too well. I weigh every morning when I get up and go potty. I never weigh after that, only in the mornings. I like doing it because it keeps me on the right path. For instance when I went through my hummus and multi-grain crackers phase. I was eating those everyday and I just wasn't losing. It was bloating me up bad. So, I cut it out of my diet and over that next week I lost like 3 pounds. It basically just helps me narrow down problem foods that I would never think was a problem food. But my official weigh in days are Tuesday's.

I lost a pound and a half this week...finally. I've been bouncing up and down a few pounds and it finally started dropping again a few days ago and I'm pretty stable now. I have a doctor's appointment in a couple days and am hoping for a very tiny fill. Usually the day on full liquids and the very tight week that follows gives me a few pounds off.

With exercise, I've upped it a bit. I went from a consistant 20 minutes a day to a pretty stable 30 minutes a day. Trying really hard to get it to 45 minutes but that has been tough. Think it will be a piece of cake once our weather drops below the 100s. Then I'll be able to walk on my breaks at work and that will add 10-20 minutes a day. Hubby and I can also take a good walk at night. Boy, oh boy am I looking forward to fall.

Yeah Ezma on breaking your plateau...that's fabulous! And yeah on the increasing exercise, too! While you are looking forward to fall, I just forsee the snow that will be coming soon...blech! Walking on icy sidewalks, unploughed paths, snow and slush and icy Water in your boots, pants salt-stained...........ugh!!!!

So, on my weigh day - did you hear that very long plaintive cry??? I am still plateau-ing!:cursing::lol::cry_smile: So, neither loss nor gain for Tap. I did day 1 of the extra exercise yesterday; thismorning's weigh in did not inspire me to continue, but I shall...tap writes grumpily.

I'm at 287 which is two lbs lower than last week, but 2 lbs higher than the week before. I have been fluctuating these 5 lbs for maybe two months now.

It's annoying.

Today, I did my second of the 3 extra walks for this week...not because of any inspiration or overwhelming desire to, but rather I've been up since 1am and couldn't sleep, so once the sun rose, I went for a brisk walk...

Dang Tap, you're as bad as me. I've been up since 4:45 and it's now 5:45 and the sun is just starting to come up but not light enough to walk yet. So I guess I'll play on the computer. LOL Really, I'll do that after I do my workout here in a minute. I have a doctor's appointment this morning so I'll find out how much I lost this month. I think it's only about 6 pounds. And I know that's okay but it's about half of what I used to lose a month.

I'm sad to report that I am one pound up from last week's weigh in. It bites to only weigh once a week and see a gain on that day. I'm thinking of going back to daily weigh ins.

I've increased my exercise a bit. I'm doing the Couch to 5 K and started week 2 today which was 20 minutes of alternating between running (more like jogging) for 90 seconds, walking for 2 min. I wasn't sure if I could handle it, but I did fine.

I'm also bummed about regular life stuff. My husband is trying for a job we reeeealy want for its location. We expected to hear by now, so every hour of every day that goes by without word, I have less and less hope. I haven't felt down much at all since my surgery, so it's weird to me. And I don't have a nice weight loss this morning to pull me out of it. Sigh.

Shiny/skinny...Don't be too hard on yourself about the weight gain - our bodies fluctuate alot. It averages out over time...at least, this is the rationale I have decided to believe it!

Hope your husband hears soon about the position...ideally he hears because he is successful. Keep us posted.

Yep Shiny, hang in there. It will certainly move down for you again. You've done a fantastic job already. Your body just needs a chance to adjust to the changes. Got my fingers crossed for your hubby and hope you hear soon. Stress is a very tough one to deal with now that we've taken away one of our coping mechanisms.

Had a fill yesterday and found out I was down 9 pounds over the last 4 weeks. That made me feel much better since the month before it had only been 5 pounds and I was really worried that I was going to be losing at a slower rate now. Glad to know that my body kicked back into gear and was close to the old rate again.

I think that I might be getting used to this weight loss spurt method I seem to have. I get a fill, lose 3-5 pounds in a snap, then bounce up and down for the rest of the month stuggling to get some more off. Rinse and repeat. Think I may just stop weighing myself for a week or so when it starts again. Save myself some frustration.

Also, just an FYI, I started my losing spurt before the fill this time. Not sure if it was the because I upped my Protein from 50ish to 80-100 range, cutting out the nightly ice cream (got it down to a couple times a week) or the slight increase in exercise time or if it is just a matter of losing in spurts.

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
