drinking 2 hours later????

Recommended Posts

My husband has been told that he needs to practice not drinking during his meals (which we understand why); but how long have you been told to wait? He was told by his dietician to wait 2 hours after eating before he drinks anything. Does that sound right???? By doing this, he'll not get much time to drink the Water that he'll need to drink. Suggestions?

Depending on your doctor it is anywhere from 45 mins to an hour. You need to stop drinking 1/2 before eating. Good Luck.

I just had my 1st postop meeting with our nutritionist and she said we are to wait 15 minutes before and 15 minutes after. This contradicted the hour our physician originally told us we had to wait after a meal, so I raised my hand and reiterated to her...You mean only 15 minutes before and 15 minutes after a meal? Not an hour? and she said our Doc had reviewed the data and changed the limit. ???

ALL surgeons are different but 2 hours seems excessive to me. You may want to reconfirm!

Every doctor is different.. Mine calls it the dry hour. Nothing 1/2 hour before or nothing 1/2 hour after. It is easy to manage.. I went and bought a key chain timer... and when we go out I'm always finished before everyone else. So I set the timer and get to have tea or something....whil they finish there meal.. But two hours.. Wow.. Haven't hurt that one.

im nearly 12 mths banded and i usually stop drinking 15 mins before a meal and wait 20mins after

im down 57kgs and dont get hungry between meals

i think i read in one of the books they give you to wait an hour post meals and i did in the beginning but 20 mins works fine for me

also we are all a bit different so its trial and error too

but 2 hrs is a bit odd:blink:...cause you would be hard pushed to fit in a good quantity of fluids doing it like that

Leeanne:lol:

I have always heard 1/2 to 1 hour after, my doctor says an hour. Just keep in mind that it is very true that once you start drinking, everything moves through the pouch quickly and you may get hungry quicker.

My Dr. says no drinking 30 minutes prior, during, or 30 minutes after. I have a hard time remembering to drink, because by the time I wait 30 minutes, I'm on to a new activity and I've forgotten about drinking Water. I was used to drinking my fluids with meals and it's a daily struggle for me to get my water in!

My doctor said no drinking 15 mins. before and 1 hr. after. I had (notice I said had!) always been a big drinker during dinner, especially eating out but I have done really well with this. I usually order a glass of ice just to have something sitting there.

My dr. say's 30 minutes before and 30 minutes after. I'm like Restlessmonkey, we were told first 1 hr. then in a support group it was said 30 before and 30 after. I raised my hand to make sure I heard right because I was doing one hr.

I would call and confirm the 2hr's. He could have misheard.

My dietician (part of the dr's office) says no drinking one hour before, and one and a half after. Considering a meal should take us 20 minutes, thats saying we can not drink for 9 of our waking hours but still we need so sip in 64 ounces of Water. Logic dictates that schedule just isnt all that reasonable.....check with the doc, perhaps they meant during a particular stage or something, but 2 hours does not really seem realistic.

I realize we all kind of adapt things to fit our own needs, but it sure would be nice if these surgeons could agree somewhat on what the rules are and are not!!!

Two hours seems excessive. I was told an hour on each side of the meal, but have recently been told that I can do 1/2 hour on the front end and another half on the other. Just so you understand, the "dry" spell is to keep him from washing food through his band, making him lose the full feeling as the pouch empties and letting him eat more. I dunno if you knew that, but I thought I'd toss it in anyway.

Thanks everyone. 1/2 hour before and 1/2 after seems more reasonable to me. I didn't get to go with him the dietician - next time I will. Thanks again

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
