I was loosing at a good rate in the beginning I am down 51 pounds so far however, My weight loss has stopped the last month I haven't lost anything, I need some advice. I have lsI would like to know what types of foods you are all eating and what type of exercise you are doing. I am unable to do a lot of exercise due to my weight however, I would love to start something new that I can participate in without hurting myself... Any suggestions would be great...:tt2:

No pain no gain sweetie. No one said this was going to be easy. You keep your chin up. Start experimenting with the types of food you eat. I have noticed that some people who plateu, fall into the same eating habbits. Change it up a little. I like to eat almost anything seafood and a lot of chicken. Vegetables are always a must because they are low in calories but are very filling. As for exercise, even if you are walking a few laps, you should be doing enough. Just make sure you are doing some kind of cardio for a half hour at least 5 out of 7 days. Even if you are briskly walking for a half hour or swimming. As long as you are keep ing your heart rate up for that time, you should be ok. Challenge yourself. You may be heavy now but the lighter you get, the easier it is to exercise.

Good luck and let me know how that works for you.

Hollie thanks for your reply. I have been doing walking about six times a week. Do you know anything about yoga I would like to add something else to the mix but usually end up tearing my s1 muscle from overdoing it. Now that I think of it I have been in an eating slump. I'm going to change it up as you suggested. I'm not usually hungry but tend to eat snack like stuff more than I should. How much have you lost and how long ago did you have your surgery.

You have lost weight, so any weight lost is a good thing. You could also try Water arobics, it's not so hard on your body. Good luck and keep up the good work.

Weightloss is rarely sustained and equal. Not sure what your weight is but I was banded at about 400 lbs, and could find exercises to do (even if they made me feel self conscious). Even if it was a low self esteem day and I stayed home and walked up and down the stairs, or cleaned the house with weights on. (enter new paragraph, my browser won't let me!) A month with no loss really isn't a big deal. I know it is to you, but it's quite normal, especially at this point. Most "super sized" bandsters I know experienced a stall shortly after month 6, hence our mantra, "I wish I had taken more advantage of the first 5 months." In fact, most of us at some point in our first 12 - 15 months went 3+ months losing/gaining the same few pounds. (another new parapgraph) Make sure you're adjusting your calories for your lower weight. Starting BMR will most definitely not be your current BMR. If you're doing that and eating good choices, it's a waiting game.

Thanks for the encouragment. I appreciate it. I have still not lost but I am not going to quit trying. I just bought a treadmill and an ab machine so I can do it at home at my own pace.

Congrats on the 52 pounds lost...that is an accomplishment to be proud of.

I didn't ready everything word for word, but have you talked to your doc about the possibility of a fill? Or maybe needing one?

If you are snacking more maybe a fill is needed? Exercise and all of the other things go into play - eating right, Vitamin supplements and those things......also are you drinking lots of Fluid? That is supposed to help with metabolism.

I am slowing down quite a bit and need to change a couple of habits. I need to start a regimented exercise program and leave the beer alone. I am finding a taste for beer again and as long as I don't eat with it, it goes down alright - extra calories I don't need.

Anyway, keep a good attitude - 50+ pounds is nothing to get discouraged about......best of luck.

Congrats on your weight loss! That is awesome! I was banded in April and almost everyone I know who was banded around that time and lost 40-50 so far has hit a plateau, me included. Usually that means that your body has gotten used to what you have been doing all this time. Our bodies are incredibly efficient so you need to shake things up a little. Add a different exercise, eat different types of food or even at different times can help. Above all else, keep plugging along. It'll start coming off again and sometimes we just have to work through it.

However, please don't hurt yourself with exercise. It doesn't have to hurt to work. Small changes in activity can lead to big changes down the line. I think you asked about yoga. I love yoga!! I usually go on Fridays and it's the perfect thing to get me over a chaotic week and a nice start to the weekend. Yoga is perfect because you work at your own level and pace. It can be everything from light to moderate stretching to a full out heart pounding workout. It's up to you. There are many modifications you can do to make it work for you. In the beginning, there were many things I couldn't really do well and some not at all. Now after a very short time, my flexibility is better and my muscle tone is getting really nice. I still can't do all the poses perfectly like the instructor, but I can do it a lot better than just a few months ago. I really do feel better after doing yoga. It's the perfect accompaniment to the other exercise I do throughout the week.

Keep up the great work! This is a long journey and we will have lots of twists, turns, and bumps but in the end it will so be worth it! I'm glad I found your post because I've been very hard on myself today about my plateau, actually I gained 1.5 this week for no apparent reason. It would do me good to take my own advice! Good luck and keep in touch!!!

Thank you all for your encouragement. It has not been an easy few weeks. I appreciate all of your knowledge and incite. It is nice to know that other people have hit these plataue's, sorry but it is nice to know im not alone or just a looser. It is hard to keep focused on the goal. I was so gung ho about this that when I stopped loosing I lost site of why I was doing this. I am starting an exercise program on Monday and changing up my eating habbits again to see what happens, I am also going to see the surgeon on Monday probably for another fill again. Wish me luck... and any advice would be appreciated.

Wensweet, congrats on your great loss thus far. One thing id like to mention that has been helpfull to me as a fellow bandster that started out needing to lose at least 200lbs is that i never focused on the large number of pounds i needed to lose. I made small attainable goals for myself from the get go. I tend to focus on 10lb increments. Makes the journey so much easier. I also ALWAYS rewarded myself with a new purchase (not food), when i reached a goal i had set. Best of luck to ya.

As you are switching things up, could you consider writing down what you eat? I found one of the biggest keys to my success was faithfully documenting what I was eating, including quantitites (I also included calorie counts). By doing this I was forced to acknowlege not only what I was eating but how much. I found it way easier to make better eating choices when I became really aware of what I was actually doing.

One of my biggest eating problems is "unconscious eating" - where I think of food and just reach for it - not stopping to see if I am actually hungry or if I could make a healthier choice.

Keep your chin up and keep up the good work!!!

:smile2:Thanks for all of the encouragment. I actually went to the surgeon on Monday and he said that he thought I needed a fill. I am the first of his patients to have a 10cc band and he didn't realize that I wasn't that full so he put in 2 more cc's. And let me tell you something I haven't even begun to feel restriction prior to that. I only thought I was restricted. I have lost 3 lbs since Monday. I am very happy about that. Also, I have begun my exercise routine's and started calorie counting. I appreciate all that have posted to this it hasn't been easy but knowing im not the only one hitting a platau is nice to know. THanks and I look forward to hearing from you all again..

Hi everyone just wanted to let you know that I did start to loose weight again. I lost 8 lbs. last week since I was filled. And let me tell you that I didn't know what being filled meant unil I got the fill a week and a half ago. I am not hungy all the time anymore I can barely eat what is necessary. I have been exercising and just purchased a wii the other day. You actually get a lot of exercise from that thing.. The wii fit is awsome. I appreciate all of your comments on what I should be doing and how to change things up they have all been helpful. Keep them coming.

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
