Getting banded on Thursday!

Recommended Posts

I'm so excited to be getting my band on Thursday Sept 4th.

It will be done at South Coast Medical Center in Laguna Beach,CA by Dr. Quebbeman and Dr. Braverman at the N.E.W. Program.

I have been really pleased with how well everything is going so far. Everyone at the center has been great. At first, I wasn't sure of my chances since I have systemic Lupus, but my Rheumy cleared me for surgery. Amazingly my insurance is paying for 90% of the surgery!

Some people I've told say "but you don't look that big..." I am 4' 11" and weighed about 200 lbs at the start of my journey. I guess I just don't look that heavy, but I definitely feel it when I walk and try to do regular activities I used to do. A few years back, I was pretty in shape and considering becoming a certified Pilates instructor. Now, I barely remember what it's like to be that flexible.

My boyfriend is amazingly supportive and is excited to go out and do all these activities with me (as if I'm suddenly going to be Ms. Fitness America and actually like the outdoors even if I never did when I was skinnier and in shape).

Anyway, I've loved browsing around and reading about your experiences so I figured I'd stop lurking and tell you all about me.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
